I just received 6 calls from this phone number saying they were from the Us Dept of Treasury and this would be considered the 2nd attempt to reach me.  If I didn't call back  then further action will be taken my a magistrate judge or  grand jury.  The man has a very heavy accent it sounds like his name is Steve Martin.  Don't know if this is a scam or what.

There is a widespread IRS (or CRA) or "tax scam" being  practiced by scammers on both USA and Canadian residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

Continual harassing phone calls with threats to pay money immediately or face imprisonment by the (supposed) US TREASURY.

Recieved a message from "Steve Martin" telling me it was my second notice and I must contact them imediately in order to not be charge with a criminal offense.
Probalby becuase Steve Martin is a wild and crazy guy!...lol SCAM 100%.
If you happen to pick up the phone the first thing you should ask them is what is my name. If they can't tell you then ask them how they know I owe taxes. then hang up.

Yes, it's a scam.  Ditto to other complaints...Heavily accented voice, (1st time a recording, 2nd time live) with poor English grammar, says from IRS (timely, since it's tax season -- guess that's the hook) federal criminal offense, etc. Doesn't say a name he's trying to reach, calls himself P. Martin. Obviously bs... law enforcement doesn't call to tell you you're in trouble and that you need to call them back, and it would be illegal to leave that on an answering machine anyway.

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.

By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.

Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.

They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.

Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.

The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.

If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.

Lisa, I have received three calls from old Steve Martin this morning.....oops just received another. We don't answer calls unless we recognize the name or voice. These idiots can be pretty slick so just disregard the call. Have a good day.

I just received the same call in Eden NC I saw on the news this is a scam!

I received a call at work this morning from this number. A man stated he was Officer Robin Matthews Badge # 1172 and he was an Officer for the US Treasury Department , Dept of Legal Affairs and an arrest warrant was issued for my arrest due to nonpayment of my 2012 taxes. I knew immediately he was a fraud and or scam to get money from me. PLEASE be aware of these people!!

I am in California and just received this call and a man left the same message as others on this page is reporting, the caller ID said the call was from Dallas TX. Do not pick up or talk to these people, the IRS only will contact you by mail.

We just received the same call. I am sure that this is a scam. They didn't even know our name.
