Sounded like Grandmama. Asked for Mr. & Mrs. <correct firstname> <correct lastname>. I asked who was calling. She replied BHT Energy.

    "We already have solar panels."
"Oh, you do! How do you like them?............<snip>.... We also have a construction division. Do you need.......<snip>"
"We don't require any services, thank you. Could you please remove us from your database?"
I don't remember her reply but, I blocked the number with my mighty little CPR Call Blocker!

Foreign caller. Said they were from Microsoft. Argued with me to try to get me to do something with computer (i suspect give them info or turn on remote control). Wouldn't hush. I told them to shut up. They said I couldn't shut them up... Lol, I highly doubt it was Microsoft.

Got 2 calls from this number today.  PIcked up the first time, but nobody there.  Picked up the second time and a male introduced himself (I didn't catch the name he used) and said he was calling on behalf of Windows about my computer.

I laughed at him and said "oh, so you're a scammer?"  He said "No, I'm a hacker, not a scammer."  Then it was almost like he thought I'd keep talking to him because he started to go on.  I just said "Oh, ok.  Well take me off your list because I'm not talking to you guys."  He responded by trying to sound ominous saying "No, I am not going to take you off the list, I am going to keep your number."  I just sat there quiet for a few seconds to see if he'd keep talking and he hung up.

I guess it's good to know that at least he's honest about being a hacker.  But anybody that gets a call from this number should not pick up or give them any info.  They're going to try and remotely log-in to your machine and extort you for money or something very similar.

Got a couple of hang ups from this number recently.  They just called again now and after I said "Hello" about 3 times (maybe they needed time to grab their script?), a woman with a very heavy accent said she was calling from The Medical Center Division with news that she could get me money for some recent surgery she had heard that I had.  I asked what company she was with, and she repeated the name.  I asked again - "Division of WHAT company?" and she said it was not a company, it was a division, part of the government.  I asked what branch of government, and she said "Georgia".  I pointed out that I was not a resident of Georgia (I kind of like playing with these people) and never had been.  She said it did not matter.  She could get me money.  I told her she was making no sense (I think she had to keep going back to the script and was losing her place) and not to call me again.  She was very offended that I would not accept her help to get money.  At that point I hung up and Googled the number and found this forum.  Am now blocking it - not that I think it will help.  I'm sure they have an entire group of numbers to call from.

Got a call from this company tonight assuring me that I could get money for my surgery.  I went on a rant with the guy and he wouldn't shut up so I could rant.  Kept telling him NOT TO TALK OVER ME!  He finally hung up.  Had these continuously a couple months ago, so I must have just rolled back to the top of the page.  Next time, I'm going to tell them I had a sex change and the only thing they can do for me is provide me with a [***] because that is all that is left!  Then I'm going to ask for their address so my attorney can deliver a law suit since they are violating the HIPAA law.....hopefully that will stop them, but probably won't because they are idiots calling outside of our country.

Ok, how (IN THE HELL) these people call you, you miss the call on purpose because you don't recognize the number ... then a few minutes later you call it and there's a recording that says:  "the number you have called is not in service, please check the number and dial again" ... HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN?!

I do not give  y cell number to ANYONE, except for business contacts and family members.  This is VERY AGGRAVATING!!!!    Arrrrgggggh!  😡

    >>> a few minutes later you call it and there's a recording that says:  "the number you have called is not in service, please check the number and dial again" ... HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN?! <<<

One of the easiest ways to fool a non-technical person (i.e., one who isn't skilled in the VERY technical art of telephone company switching systems) is to record the disconnected message on a voice mail announcement.

    See https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DCiF4abBryA for an example.

In fact, a device that you could attach to your own telephone line that played the signaling tones (if not the voice recording) used to be sold to consumers not that many years ago.  You just had to press a button when you wanted the device to operate.

The theory was that most predictive dialers would respond to at least one of the tones and automatically drop you from its calling list.  These devices probably don't work anymore.

Because telephones have advanced a lot since the days of oatmeal boxes with connecting strings and now use something known as out-of-band signaling, a more sophisticated scammer has access to many more and much more effective ways of sending you a caller ID that you can't call back.  But how they do it is way beyond the scope of this web site and what I feel like discussing right now.  It would severely tax your patience, anyway, as would be the case with most people who are not telephone geeks.  And anybody who needs to hide behind a caller ID this way already knows how to do it and wouldn't be asking the question on this board in the first place.

Yes.......this is my second call trying to tell me they were from "Microsoft" and my PC was infected with a virus.  Very Heavy Indian accent.   For gods sake, I work for Johnson Controls a major company building PLC control systems.   I keep my PC well protected.  There is NO way Microsoft calls up individuals about things like this to start with and only a very naïve person would think of giving a stranger access to their PC.   Why don't they just ask for all my credit card and banking account numbers or something???  God what Idiots in this world.
