- Sean From Queens| 4 repliesMy mother just got a call from a "Microsoft technician" that requested her to run an event log which showed errors (as it would always would and what the "technician" was relying on), then he asked her to download teamviewer to fix her computer. Before actually downloading the remote desktop software, she became very suspicious of the "technician" and asked for phone numbers to call him back he gave 214-856-8767 and 972-591-8270, she excused herself from the call and then called me.
Not sure what scam they were trying but everyone should b wary, Microsoft does not call random customers to fix their computers.- Caller: Not Microsoft
- Chris from BuffaloAlmost the same story as Sean from Queens. The guy wanted me to set up a logmein accnt for him on my computer. This technician had me going for a minute or two.
- diane| 1 replyGot a call at 8:51 this morning from Alan in the computer technical department for Windows. (214-856-8767) He said we had a serious problem with Malware. I took his phone number and said I would have my husband call him. Then I called my computer service about the call and they said it is a scam probe, and that I should contact a white collar crime unit or my local police to notify them about the call.

frm windows technical department.. mc kinney tx... - Tamianth replies to sheira| 11 repliesLooks like a shill infestation going on here and we need to call in the exterminators..
Its a scam and all they want is your money! They have no way of knowing whats going on with your computer and No legitimate company cold calls like this. The scam usually entails them taking you to your event viewer which is a internal monitor that logs events on your computer.. Oh sure, you will see the error's logged, but its all a scam to get you to allow them access to your computer. The event viewer is only doing its job and its there for a real tech to look through should you actually have a problem. Then they want remote access! They usually turn your anti virus program off and give you a big spiel, then inform you they want a small fee to fix it.. several hundred dollars of course! Meanwhile, they have access to all your computer and could be gleaning personal info, downloading stuff to your computer to turn it into a zombie computer to spam folks..
The only persons who should be touching your computer is you, your manufacturer, Real Windows support that you have called and/or maybe a real live tech you see face to face!

Who are you actually huh ?? - not Michael replies to Steve AdlerTamainth is right. Anyone who calls you and tells you they found a problem with your computer is a scammer. They will talk you into letting them into your computer, claiming that they are going to remove malware. Once in they will turn off your anti-malware and install malware, and they will charge you for doing it. They will read your personal files. They will leave software that lets them continue to monitor everything you do online, including online banking. They will harvest your banking access codes, then empty your bank account.
My neighbor fell for it. They had not taken any money. The best guess is that they were using her computer to distribute spam and run DDOS attacks. She ended up replacing her computer.
Don't fall for it. Don't let them in.
Lie to them. Tell them you don't have a computer. - Tamianth replies to Steve Adler| 2 repliesA shills worst nightmare!
