Received a call after 6 pm on March 18, 2014.  The caller I.D. said "Niangane Chavon".  I did not answer because I did not recognize the name or the number. According to 800notes this is Portfolio Recovery Ass.
I do not owe anyone anything.  I used to be polite with everyone, even rude people, because that was the way I was raised.  If someone approached me while spewing filth I just allowed them to rant until they ran out of words.  They didn't know what to do with someone who wouldn't sink to their level.  (I had taken a self-defense course, but I avoided dangerous situations because I wasn't careless or crazy.)  I didn't hesitate to walk away even though the trouble maker laughed and taunted me.  So what?  The witnesses always remembered that I had done nothing to provoke or escalate the situation.  When I chose to file charges, those witnesses backed me up.
This polite approach did not work on the scammers and other pests who started to call my home.  Even hanging up (which is the equivalent of walking away) when the caller became angry, didn't work.  I started keeping a log of the caller I.D. information in 2011.  Many of the calls for people I didn't know.  I refused to give out information on myself or anyone else.  I stated the truth, "He/she doesn't live here and I have no idea who they are."  I stumbled upon 800notes and began to learn just how these pests operate. God only knows how many scams I've avoided because of this website.  The articles have taught me so much ; I encourage people I know to come here to learn how to protect themselves.

That is a clear FDCPA violation..   Follow the steps in what you need to know and send them a cease & desist letter via registered or return receipt mail.  Record any messages and phone conversations, keep this all down in a notepad with details and names & dates. Also look up SOL for your state and also recording laws, some states require the other party be told.

If it is portfolio like everyone else is saying, then the caller id is illegal and a clear violation of FDCPA & TCPA laws.

Google your name and your phone number. If any place like spokeo shows up, make them remove your phone number. FB, make sure your info is set to private.  There's outfits like spokeo I found show up and even list relatives as well. So make sure you tag anything and get it removed.

Then follow the steps above in my other post!

I have no clue who these people are, but any number that calls me that I don't have saved in my phone I send to VM.  Legit callers will leave VM's, scammers wont.  If they don't leave a VM then I know its a telemarketer or other annoyance so...

    I BLOCK THEM!

    iPhones are awesome!

    Thanks 800 notes!

    Alright. This is getting old.
They;ve called our company line 5 times this morning. The first 3 calls were dead air calls. It happens. Whatever.

But the last two have been a shrill woman screaming obscenities into the phone for 'hanging up on [her]"

Next time Portfolio Recovery calls, they will get 'The Infinite Hold Of Doom'!!!
