Got a call, but did not answer.  Tried to look them up on internet but no one has really reported them.

Got two calls. Have caller id so did not answer.

Received call when I was not available.  Caller did not leave message.

Calls once or twice a day every day. But doesn't leave a message.

Calls weekly when I am not taking calls. Does not leave a message.

Called within 2 hours of new home phone being connected. Did not lave message but number on caller id. Called number back and automated service said Portfolio Recovery Service.

Received call when I was not available.  Again (see above Resident from Phoenix) caller did not leave message.

Portfolio Recovery

Yawn....Another day, another call from Portfolio Recovery. Blocked.

Yet another call from Portfolio, called back once and asked for them to send me documentation of debt that "have against" me and they flat refused saying they didn't have to give me any type of documentation.  I politely told them that they were more than welcome to call daily, but until I got what I was LEGALLY entitled to, they would get the same respect from me that they give me....So to voicemail they roll!!!

Portfolio Recovery scumbags have a new set of numbers.

This is a robo-call from Portfolio Recovery Associates.  They are a scum-bag collection agency, which has already lost lawsuits for pursuing claims which are unjustified, and for sending falsified documents under the guise of legal documents.  They have lawsuits currently pending against them in multiple states.

If you have the time, and they're bothering you, call the state Attorney General's office, and either get in on one of the existing harassment lawsuits or start your own class action against these pieces of dog-turd.  In no case should you give them any money.  If enough people take them to court (they probably don't have any formal records of your original transaction and they would likely lose if they tried to take YOU to court), they'll shrivel up and die.

I suspect they file what seems to be frivilous lawsuits. I think they filed one against me.

This is a long summary, but you need to read it carefully if you think you are being threatened by a debt collector.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:

* Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money.   ["Written" means snailmailed ... not emailed or texted]

* Debt collectors may NOT
- repeatedly use the phone to annoy someone.
- falsely claim that they are attorneys or government representatives
- falsely claim that you have committed a crime
- falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit reporting company
- say you will be arrested if you don’t pay your debt
- say they’ll seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages unless they are permitted by law to take the action and intend to do so
- say that legal action will be taken against you, if doing so would be illegal or if they don’t intend to take the action
- use a false company name
- take or threaten to take your property unless it can be done legally;

The debt collector may not garnish your wages unless there is a court order to do so.
Many Federal benefits (including Social Security Benefits) are exempt from garnishment

You have the right to sue a collector in a state or federal court within one year from the date the law was violated. If you win, the judge can require the collector to pay you for any damages you can prove you suffered because of the illegal collection practices, like lost wages and medical bills. The judge can require the debt collector to pay you up to $1,000,

Report any problems you have with a debt collector to your state Attorney General’s office, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

I agree about taking them to court, but be aware that they probably have an excellent legal staff. If you are being sued by them, it probably is best to get an attorney, unless you know for certain just how the ask the questions you should be asking them (or their attorney) and how to make the legal "demands" you should make, and what documents to file.
