Only 9:18 AM and they have called 3 times at work. Won't leave a message.

Caller called twice in a row, both times saying they are from social security and disability.  Left a message but no details and did not know my name.   Possible scam?  (caller Id says us government with no capitalization)

they start calling early and do not leave a message! grrr

This is the Social Security Administration.  They're probably calling about your benefits or application.

why in the world do they have such an obscure name on caller ID in this age of scams? pisses me off....I'm still not convinced it's legit.

Just had SSD hearing. General Service called, her name was Bell. She asked questions regarding my Workers Comp claim. She said she was Social Security and was using the info in an attempt to reconcile the amount of SSD I was to receive.

They just called me twice and left no message. They hung up both times as soon as vmail came on. They called a work line that is not in my name, bus. number isn't based local and the company is based out of AZ so a PA based SSA wouldn't make sense to be calling.  I have never applied for benefits nor have I ever listed the number they called for myself as a contact on anything, anywhere, ever. I highly don't believe that it is the real SSA but I could be wrong.

She told me that she was from SSA and wanted to know my birthday. To my response that "you are not from SSA", she gave me a return number to call her, that is 215-597-7023. After reading the postings here on both numbers, I decided not to call her back.

Received the call from this number 215-597-5657 saying they called from social security.
I called that number back, turn out to be a non working number at mid Atlantic SS center in Philadelphia .
The record said, If I know the party extension, hang up and call 215-597 then 4 digit number that I know.
They suggest to reach SS at 1-800-772-1213 on use online services at www.socialsecurity.gov

Don't give out any info.

I cannot believe that the real U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) would call from Philadelphia, with the number showing up on Caller Id as "General Services."  This is an unlisted number, maybe from one of their contractors.  I don't have good luck dealing with SSA's contractors, particularly via strange  numbers or the 800 numbers, as they are generally incompetent and are more trouble than they are worth. Lastly, "General Services" is not listed as a business or Government agency in Philadelphia, except for the General Services Administration (GSA, the Federal Government's housekeeper),  but GSA would not be making SSA related telephone calls.

I got a call from 215-597-5657..a lady by the name of bernardine depew says she is social insurance specialist..asking for my birth certificate and my children's plus our social security numbers..she also asked for the social security numbers for my kids dads. She  called to conduct my review of my social security claim..i called the head of social security office in harrisburgh told the lady I spoke with what's was going on.she said there was no record that social security tryed to contact me and that they wouldn't be asking for information that they already have for my claim.she than told me not to give any more info out and contact my locial social security office ..

I'll bet that someone in the Social Security data food chain is leaking information to scammers.  Suggest you call the cops and have them listen in when you return any of these calls.

The telephone number, 215-597-5657 is an out of service, and past Social Security number.  I called the Federal Trade Commission and was told that the government will never call you and will always use mail.  This is a scam.  

I got the exact same thing - no message, I googled the number and it came up as SSA (I did apply for benefits) and the same 800 number was on the recording and the same number on my phone 215-597-5657 that someone on this posting documented.  

Good suggestion not to give personal info over the phone but I do know from a friend at work that SSA does call the applicant once the file has been submitted.   Could be legit.

I received a phone called from 215-597-5657, the women claimed to be from Social Security Administration.  She did not give her name or her employee number.  She left personal information on an answering machine, without verifying if she even had the right person.  Normally, Social Security asks many questions in order to verify the person they are speaking to, before indulging any information.  Also, the phone call was received on a Sunday morning at 9:03 AM and the person had a similar name to mine and my sons, but it was not correct.  If you should get any phones like this, DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY INFORMATION, DO NOT RETURN A PHONE CALL TO THIS NUMBER OR ANY LIKE IT, AND REPORT CALLS LIKE THIS TO SOCIAL SECURITY AND YOUR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT.  Anything that social security needs is NORMALLY received through the mail.

Legit number for Social Security application claims processor.  Just applied for Soc Sec retirement and someone from this number helped me work out my benefits and approved my application.

The 215.597.5657 is actually a legitimate number.  It is a PA Social Security Administration number.  

Received a call from 215-597-5657 last Saturday afternoon.  Caller ID showed: GENERAL SERVICE.  I was skeptical, so I let it go to voice mail.  Caller identified herself as "Marisha" with the Social Security Administration (yeah, I bet that's her real name -- just like "Peggy" from the Discover Card commercials) and instructed me to return her call as soon as possible at 866-431-3875 ext. 32172.  I assumed this was in response to my on-line filing application for Medicare. I tried the 866-431-3875 number (without the extension) and was greeted with a message that I had reached the "Philadelphia Immediate Claims Taking Unit" and their business hours are 6AM - 6PM M-F.  (It's a bit curious that Marisha was working on a Saturday).  I entered her extension, but it just rang and rang.  I've been trying that number at least eight times a day for the past week!  No one ever answers and there is no option to leave a message.  Monday I called the 866-431-3875 number and pressed 0 "to speak with the next available agent". I was informed "...all available agents are busy and to leave my name, phone number, and my SSN and someone would return my call."  I left my contact info (but NOT my SSN) and mentioned I was returning Marisha's call.  That was five days ago and no one has returned my call.  Perhaps this is a legit number for SSA and this is just the level of service I should expect from the government agency tasked with assisting the elderly.  No wonder the local SSA office has to have an ARMED GUARD in the waiting room and signs on the wall warning that threatening a government official is a felony punishable by a fine and prison time.
