This is a scam. Claim IRS is suing for unpaid taxes. CID was Backbone Commun. Called number back expecting it to be out of service but it was answered by a voice similar to the one that had called and left a message threatening me with legal action for unpaid taxes an hour earlier. The message included his name, Steve Martin, and a return number 1-213-401-2952.

Thank you for posting your message.  I got the exact same call and freaked out.  They told me that they were sending officers to arrest me.  I hung up before I got a chance to ask them what the specific charges were.  They said it had to do with the justice department and the IRS.

Return number was in L.A. area (213 401 2952).  Thanks for the other posts.  Bunch of crooks.  Stay away.

    Scam! Scam! Scam! Scam! Scam!

Another one of my friends was getting these too. A real agency would always send legal notice in the mail if there was anything you had to follow up on. None of the real agencies have the man power to be making phone calls, nor would they. They would always expect you to call them when you got a true legal notice in the mail! Scam!

A scam for sure!  Have some fun with it.  I keep calling them back blocking my caller ID and torturing them until they hang up.  It's hilarious.  sometimes you will get VM so keep calling back.  It's fun to turn the tables.  To block caller id dial *67 before the number.

My favorite part of this scam is the bit that "ignoring this call will be a second criminal offense"!  I'd be more impressed if they at least tried to sound real, this is pathetic.  The second best part is the first line, "This message is intended to reach you."   I'm reporting it, just the same.  Arrived from (215) 734-0229, said to call (213) 293-3920.

This is the readable message recorded from the call ( 5 times over the past 3 days)
"Hi this message is intended to contact you. My name is Steve Martin and I'm calling regarding an enforcement actions executed by US treasury and intending(?) your serious attention. Ignoring this will be an additional second attempt to avoid initial appearance before the magistrate judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense. My number is 213-293-3920. I repeat 213-293-3920. I had why you to cooperate with others and helpers to help you. Thank you."

Just got the same call. I let it go to answering machine. Said something about legal actions and going before a judge if I don't cooperate.  Not only was the accent not American,  but it also sounded electronic.
