These people will call & threaten you with warrants/summons to sue you and will not stop!  Even if you've filed a bankruptcy in which this was included many many years ago!  They're a VERY VERY shady company in which the Ohio Better Business Bureau cannot even get their address for!  They have many complaints against them & violate the Fair Credit Act on a daily basis!
BEWARE!!!!!!!!!

Left message on my answering machine for similar name as my stepson.  Said he was Special Investigator Baxter calling regarding case #rcf3569.  Said to call or have the lawyer call, as soon as my husband who is a paralegal heard the message he said it was a hoax and not any special investigator as they would have put in in writing and send it in the mail to start a paper trail. I decided to search the phone number and ended up here. Glad I did.

Have gotten 2 calls from this person, Civil Investigator Nancy Simmons.  She states that I have 2 cases?? against me and that I should call her back.  She also stated that if I do not call back then a summons or subpoena? will be sent to me.  (She also stated this a few months ago, but have received nothing so far).  She gave me an Affidavit number MY*****, and said that an arrest warrant may have been issued in my name.  Just FMI,I am calling the local police department here to see if there is actually a warrant.  I have never had one, nor I have ever done anything that warrants a warrant (no pun intended).  Not sure what this is about, have never called the number back, wanted to come on this site first to see if it is actually a hoax.  Has anyone ever spoken with any of these Special or Civil Investigators before?  Please reply/advise.  Thanks.

Sounds like a shady collection agency. By the way, no collection agency has the authority to have anyone interested. In fact, it's illegal for a collection agency to threaten such a thing. If I were you, I'd retain an attorney to sue 'em.  You can find an attorney in your area through the National Association of Consumer Advocates that specializes in dealing on your behalf with slimy and illegal collection tactics. Here's their website: www.naca.net

Also, check out Bud Hibbs' website for lots of good information on dealing with these slimebags: www.budhibbs.com

Good luck!

"Civil matter with criminal consequences"??  That's a hilarious contradiction! And it's proof that the idiot harassing you has no idea what he or she is talking about. It's just scam aimed at scaring you into handing over your money to them. First of all, no debt collector has the authority to have you arrested or criminally charged. And it's illegal for them to imply such a thing!

If I were you, I'd find an attorney in my area affiliated with the National Association of Consumer Advocates ( www.naca.net ) and gleefully pursue every avenue of punishment -- both criminal and civil -- against this criminal debt collector for violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

If you don't want to go that route, you could always send them a certified letter directing them to cease communication with you. After receiving such a notice, the collector can legally contact you just on more time.  Then after that, the collector can never legally contact you again.  Here are a couple sample letters that you could adapt to your situation:  http://www.budhibbs.com/cease_comm.htm or http://credit.about.com/od/debtcollection/a/ceaseanddesist.htm  Just be sure to send the letter via certified US Mail.

Also, you can easily report this criminal debt collector's illegal behavior to the Federal Trade Commission here: http://ftc.gov/ftc/cmplanding.shtm

Remember: all the threats of criminal charges, etc. are not only untrue, they're illegal. So relax and put the screws to these criminals.  Good luck!

For those who are receiving these calls, you might find this information of some help.

These calls are from a criminal operation by the name of CMC Recovery that's based in Georgia. They also masquerade as working for the a law firm called "Robert Goldstein & Associates" and probably other aliases. As consumer law expert Bud Hibbs notes, there is no such attorney Robert Goldstein & Associates. These people are not only breaking federal debt collection laws, they're also committing numerous other felonies (impersonating law enforcement officials, fraud, impersonating an attorney, extortion, etc.) They are criminals and you should NEVER give them any information about yourself. Ignore their calls and report them to authorities. Here's Bud Hibbs' advice on dealing with the CMC/Robert Goldstein:

http://www.budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/cmc_recovery_bud.htm

Remember, the only difference between these CMC/Goldstein callers and thugs on the street is that they mug people over the phone.

I suggest you and everyone else who's received these calls contact your local police, your local FBI office, and that you file a complaint online with the Federal Communications Commission at http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/complaints.html (The FCC enforces the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act.) Also, since this batch of calls originate in Ohio, so you should file a complaint with the Ohio Attorney General by calling 877-244-6446 or going online to http://www.ag.state.oh.us/citizen/consumer/complaints.asp

For those who file a complaint with the authorities, I suggest giving them the weblinks to the several message threads on 800notes.com that concern abuse in the 216 area code by this same group of criminals (CMC Recovery Services, Inc./a.k.a. Robert Goldstein & Associates). Here are weblinks:

They left me alone; after I paid them $4000 dollars for a repo that I defaulted on over ten years ago.  Now I can't get a receipt to prove that I gave them anything.  I am not happy.  I guess I'll see a lawyer tomorrow.
