Amber - 3 Jan 2008Person called, and I could hear them breathing on the other end. I said 'hello' three times and hung up. Then, because I don't have caller I.D., I *69ed and got the info. I googled and got here, which I find very disturbing that this person is calling this many people- WHAT'S THE POINT???----
So, I called them back, blocking my ##- and a guy answered and said,
"Hello, sorry we missed your call, please call again later"- and I said "hello" (because it didn't sound like a machine)- and he said, "Please call again later"- again, and hung up on me. Seriously.

I've read some posts "assuming" he wants money, but I have not read any posts until yours where he has ever said anything, admiringly under your circumstances you called him instead of vice-versa. So I doubt he's looking for money, but you never know.
Now I did not read ever post out here so there may be other cases where he has spoken. None the less, who knows what he's up to; could be one of many things. From someone making random calls looking for a victim to possibly a very lonely person who could be housebound due to age or medical reasons looking to pass the time by amusing them self with these random phone calls. Who knows, but whatever the reason is, I feel sorry for the individual such that they feel the need to make these calls.
BTW, I received a call from this number a day or two ago. I wasn't home, no message left, just the caller id. Google search indicates the same Davenport address that others have mentioned.

Jeremy - 9 Jan 2008I find it odd that it reads "ILLINOIS" in the caller ID section, I didn't have the 217 area code in my phone though, so I cant be certain that it is really a local number. The last time I had "ILLINOIS" show up in my caller ID, it was a telemarketer from the Vietnam Veterans at phone number 847-626-9589.

Bob - 12 Jan 2008I live in Northern Illinois, have gotten several calls from this number during the last two or three months. I pick up the phone, and can hear someone breathing on the other end, but get no response to my "Hello? who is this? I also found this number registered to A. Davenport, Lincoln Illinois. Why can't someone stop this kind of harrassment? Someone said they thought it was coming from the Illinois Police Patrolmens Association. I wouldn't doubt it, they solicit all year round. You don't even know if the caller is legitimate.

Fred - 15 Jan 2008I got the same call this evening. I didn't hear the introduction, but something to do with the police looking for a contribution to help officers health or something like that. Our standard response is, "Is the contribution tax deductable?" He answered, "No", and I responsded, sorry, we cannot donate then. He politely thanked me and we hung up.
