- Door2Door| 3 repliesMost interesting. Over the last few days I have been "bombed" with calls from 504, and it looks like 225 is warming up, too. This uptick in calls from Louisiana area codes has to indicate something. Are the scam/spam/phishing creeps using spoofed numbers from Louisiana "just for a change"? Who knows?

- AWP| 2 repliesYep.....here we go again. I just spent HOURS yesterday putting in numbers that are calling and you cannot call back. VERIZON WIRELESS! Seems THEY could look into these numbers and if they are getting a "number has been changed"....."number is disconnected", that they would do something about it. Does no good to change your number at all! What happened to days of peace with a regular land line only. We have created our own misery with having to be in constant contact with everyone and everything....... I still say that some of these numbers are used by the girlfriend/boyfriend trying to get in touch with their married girlfriend/boyfriend, and are showing up as the cheaters phone number. It can be done! Easily.
- JoeyDee replies to AWP| 1 replyTake a little time from your rant to read through the other posts in this forum. You might get a better idea of what's actually happening.
You are right about creating our own misery: our modern technology gives criminals from overseas the ability to dial thousands of numbers an hour, automatically, and registering as "live" any number where a human picks up and says "Hello." Similarly, whenever someone calls back one of these numbers that actually goes through, that person's number is registered as valid and ripe for scamming.
When you call back (which you should never do anyway) and get a dead line, it's because the fake phone number (and sometimes the fake company name, such as VERIZON) that appears on your caller ID has no basis in reality: It's fake.
There is no way for a company like Verizon to know which fake phone numbers the scammers will select to show up on a caller ID screen.
These crooks operating from India, Pakistan and elsewhere, are beyond the reach of US law and the Do Not Call Registry. - No I didn't pick it upSunday morning and I getting a phone call right before sunday school @ 9:45 AM. Didn't recognize the number so I didn't pick it up. It shows to be a baton rouge cell phone number, with a various collection scam from student loan troubles to bounced check. Sometimes they claim that they are "BSI" this seems to be a convient name since there are about a half dozen legitimate companies in the are which have this in their company name.
