Called at 5 pm on Saturday 3/21/15, didn't answer. They left no message. I read another website that said this number was used for fraudulent gift card, where you pay shipping and they charge your account more than the disclosed amount.

called 8:16 pm  no voice mail.  What good does the NATIONAL DO NOT CALL LIST do anyway?

    >> What good does the NATIONAL DO NOT CALL LIST do anyway?  <<

The DNC list does not automatically block calls.  Instead, it provides a list of  "do not call" phone numbers to legitimate telemarketers who pay a fee for the list.

The DNC list exempts political callers, survey organizations,  charities, companies with preexisting business relationships, and some other organizations (such as debt collectors), but these organizations might have their own, internal Do Not Call list (ask them).

The DNC list  is not effective against criminals, spammers and scammers, because those people do not subscribe to the DNC list, and do not care if you are on or off that list.
It can stop calls from legitimate telemarketers, and it does a pretty good job at that.

    Here is your reading assignment:
    https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/media-resourc ... try/enforcement

Modern technology has given telescammers the tools to call you.
Since those telescammers are criminals, they ignore both the Do Not Call list and any request you might make.
Modern technology can also protect you, if YOU do a few simple things!
The first thing to do is buy a call blocker device, service or app.
    Then, use it correctly.

Google "call blocker" for more information.

If you cannot afford or use such a tool, then:
    * Do not answer calls from unknown numbers ... let them go to voicemail or answering service
    * Do NOT return calls from unknown numbers!  All that does is verify your phone number!  And, in some cases, those return calls may cost $20 or more to complete.
    * If you have a "dumb" cell phone, assign the scammer's number to a group named "scam" (or similar).  Then, assign a silent ringtone to that group.

Since when do criminals obey laws?  Consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so. If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

Report your callers here, not just to the DNC alone:

    https://esupport.fcc.gov/ccmsforms/form1088.action
    https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx?panel=2

For text messages: forwarding any text message spam you get to the short code  “7726,” which spells “spam” on most phones, to alert your network operator to the abuse. ATT won't accept 7726 But they will accept BLOCK and return a message that the web site is blocked. forward the texts to 7726 or BLOCK, depending on your phone carrier.

Am really tired of these calls.  Ring, I don't know the number so don't answer and they leave no message.  Twenty three, yes 23, of these calls from various numbers since the 21st of March...  On the do not call list  - but doesn't seem to help....  Frustrating to say the least.....
