    225-406-8591 Called us Twice.
    1. My husband answered . A man with an accent said there was a criminal investigation and he was to call the number back? My husband hung up.
    2. Later I answered the phone and could not understand the person on the other side so I said " Do Not Call This Number Again! That was an hour ago so hopefully they will not call us again!

Despite the phone # of 202-580-8611 in the message, dialing *69 (I don't have caller ID) gave the # of 225-406-8591.  So, I'm posting this under both #'s:

male voice, with a very heavy Indian accent, left this message:

"...you get this message, you need to call on the IRS # of Criminal Investigation which is 202-580-8611.  I repeat, 202-580-8611.  There is a notice issued on your name and there are previous allegations pressed against your name by the Criminal Investigation of Internal Revenue Service.  As this is a matter of urgency, I'm looking forward to speak[sic] to you.    Thank you."

    Spam!  Phone # blocked.  Done.

I just received the same call. This is a total scam. The IRS does not communicate by phone regarding any type of official business. They only communicate by certified mail.

These are another group of scammers.  Heavy indian/[***] accent - on a recording no less. They also use a washington d.c. #.  There are clips on U-tube with people calling back to scam the scammers and offering to pay the outstanding amount they owe the IRS. It is pretty funny.  what isn't funny is that the FCC, or any other federal agency can't shut these types of operations down.

this scam has been going around, I received a call this morning at 7AM......didn't answer, let it go to voice mail, male with a heavy Indian accent, say that I need to call the IRS because of previous notices, criminal investigation issued in my name and the sheriff will come to arrest me etc, etc, etc, that was just now, however, I received about 3 calls last year, same spiel, same voice...so it's starting again, well, this time I now have this number blocked.

Received a call from this number 225-406-8591 who left a message threatening legal proceedings against either my daughter or myself who are the only ones at this number.  Could not understand the man because he did have a thick broken English voice.  I did not call the number back because I have got this message before.....

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.   Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest.    If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

Has been calling my grandmother for over a year, she had been telling me that someone keeps calling her multiple times a week. I answered the phone one time asked him politely to stop calling by request of my grandmother. He told me that he wouldn't stop calling. I became very rude and I hung up on him.  Has been calling and harassing us sense.
