Just got a voice mail from a Brandon Smith at Keith & Phillips Legal Associates - said that if he doesn't hear back from me right away he will forward my "case" to the head attorney and local authorities will arrive at my street address and work place with court papers, subpena and arrest warrant, pick me up and put me "behind the bars" for the fraud I have committed. Also that I will loose my job. I have no idea who this bozo is. Tried a internet search and could not find anything. I am thinking this is an old payday load debt. I believe this is a threat and harassment and I could take action against them?

Just for the record it is a complete scam......it is about an old payday loan and their company purchased the portfolio for pennies on the dollar. They are using scare tactics and the most you can do is file a civil suit for harrasment. They do not follow FDCPA guidelines......the only truth to what they are saying is you did take out a payday loan and didn't pay it back. Best thing to do is pay back only what you borrowed or tell them to kiss your ass!!!!!!! PS......we just burned their number so they will get a new number and keep going!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;-)

I had the same type of call from another number yesterday. Here's the transcribed message they left me:

This message is intended for Jose Harris. Also the very second you receive this message, I need you or your written attorney of record to return the call.  The issue at hand is extremely time sensitive. My name is James William and hotline to my division 2254359095. I repeat it is 2254359095. Don't disregard this message. Return the Call. Now, Jose if you don't return the call or I don't hear from your Attorney either, the only thing I can do is wish you good luck. As this is the wisest thing falls on you.

My son received a call from the 225-435-9095. The man called his work left a message for him to call and it was important and his name was Mark Smith and he was calling from Keith and Phillips Law Office. I called the number back because the message was gave to me because my son works for the same place I do. We work for a city govenment and I am the City Judge. I tried to get the case number and the date it was filed and what court it was filed in the man whom is Indian or Something like that told me oh no no mam we have not filed suit yet we are going to give him a chance to make it right and I said when was the money borrowed and where from he stated it was in December 2012 and that it was American Pay Day Cash he also stated that the money could have got lost in the mail or stolen he was trying to tell me thats why they wanted to give him a chance to make it right. I stated to them my son has never borrowed money from there and that I knew this was a scam and that I would do whatever I could to make it known and hopefully have them caught. He then told me I was a scam and that I was no City Judge I let him know where to go to look it up on the internet and then he came back on the phone and told me he could not find anything and I was a scam then he had to go needed on another line. So I called right back acted like someone else told them they had called me and I needed an address to send payment and the man that answered wanted to know how much I was sending I told him I didnt know that they didnt tell me yet and he said well how much do you have in your pocket which I lost it with him when he said that so needless to say he hung up. And yes I called right back and I will keep calling to show them what it feels like to be harrassed. BUT IT IS A SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who can I contact in the law they said that i cannot have any information regarding this and that they will not provide me with any information.  They want me to send information on payment.  I tried to pay with my credit card and they said that they cannot take it that it has to go through money order in minutes with western union.  Western Union will not let it go through. Please if you can advise me of any information.

It's a scam.  Do NOT pay them via any method, especially Western Union.  Demand they send you in the mail written verification of the debt, and proof that they are the ones legally allowed to collect the debt.  Bet they can't do that!  Also try and get them to give you their mailing address so you can certified-mail them a cease communication letter.  As for reporting the scam, you could start with your state attorney general. Good luck to you.

They told me they would show up at my work and arrest me. Will they call my work? What should I do? I hung up on them and googled this. I called the number back and told them I have contacted my local police and they hung up on me. Then when I continued to call they would not answer. What do I do? Just ignore it?

My daughter received a call like this today in a total panic.  She is supposed to be moving out in 2 weeks and just started a new job.  I typed in the number and thank goodness I found this information.  She was about to send these people $200.  She has never borrowed from a payday loan company but has applied a few weeks ago.  Somehow, a payday loan company has also tapped into her bank account for payment.  This is so frustrating.  I'm trying to reassure her that everything will be fine but she keeps getting hit with everything under the sun.  When God is making a way the devil sure does step up his game.  Please pray for her.

Just to let you know...I have called them back 40 times this morning alone.  I can't believe that in today's age, they actually call from a number that you can call back.  Dial *67 before you dial their number and it blocks yours from them seeing.  Wicked fun!!!

he called me today, i laughed in his face he could not even pronounce my name correctly for starters  said that he was Alex White (with an indian or middle eastern accent, yea right) and that if I did not call him back, he could not be responsisble for what was coming next, so I called him back, mainly to mess with him cause i knew that they were fake, he told me that they would have me arrested today, yea lots of luck with that one, it is illegal in pa to do a payday loan without being licensed with the state, and that a case had been filed, and i was the prime suspect. the criminal charges against me were the following:  violation of banking regulations, check fraud and banking fraud.  and that I was under investigation. He said the payday loan was from american cash (I never have had a payday loan from them) so I laughed at him and asked him what firm they were with,  and they said keith and philips and that they were out of baton rouge la. So the next thing i did was call the ftc and filed a complaint with them and with the fcc for spoofing the number, i contacted the american cash website as well and let them know what was going on.....they even transferred me to a person on the other line who was irrate and thought i was collecting on them, i tried to explain to her they were doing the same thing to me, but she hung up and then tried calling back to get someome who answered the phone "law office". first of all, according to the fair credit act they have to have the number and the name displayed on caller id, so if indeed it was a legit office it would have been displayed as such, second of all i would have gotten court papers already if i were being sued by someone for indebtness and would not be arrested for such indebtness,

do not send money, they are scammers, they hijack some of the payaday loan information either by being sold or hacking, have her check her credit reports for id theft, and change her bank account number now.

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

ABC News released an investigative report on this scam in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:
