Sat-05/21/11 3:10 PM: Second Phone Call from 225-578-8529, caller ID listed LSU, male voice Hi how are u today, told him I was fine.  He advised he was doing a survey, that my information as to my social number, bank account number and other information requested would be kept confidential. I ask who was calling, he said, Louisiana State University, and immediately proceded to ask...Is you phone a landline or cell phone?  I ask for him to repeat his Q. He repeated, is your phone a landline phone? Then I told him that I want to opt out of his survey! He said OK. and hung up.

This First Call from this number was several days ago.  Voice Mail was ON. NO Message left.

I have a problem believing that LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY, BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA, needs information about my phone service, social security number or bank account number.

    Hello CCB,
I am the head supervisor at LSU Public Policy Research Lab. The LSU PPRL is a Research Facility dedicated to quality public policy research.  We conduct phone surveys to gather public opinion on behalf of state agencies, educational facilities, non-profit organizations, and business agencies.  We are currently conducting a survey where the intro explains that you won't be identified by name, social security number, telephone number, etc.  I apologize for any miscommunication that may have occurred.

As for the question that is referring to whether we have contacted you through your land line or cell phone, we ask this because we are collecting data for two samples, one who have landline + cell phone, others who only have cell phones.

Please visit our website to know about the research conducted by our organization at www.survey.lsu.edu. If you still have any further questions, please contact us at 225-578-7499.

to teh professional privacy invader replies to Gail H.
    STOP CALLING STRANGERS.

The phone is has become a vector for scams, it is safe for anyone receiving a cold call to assume it is a SCAM. Even if your attempt to invade our privacy is in some perverse way "legitimate", your number can be spoofed and your self-appointed legitimacy hijacked.

The best response is NO RESPONSE --- do not answer numbers you don't recognize. Under no circumstances should honest people tolerate your attempts to gather information, regardless of the claims you make to protect our privacy. The call itself de-legitimizes your claims to respect privacy.

The second best response is to blast you with a whistle or airhorn. Don't just tell these scumbags to "stop calling", this site has tens of thousands of messages that confirm this is ineffective. If every time, or even every other time, the professional privacy invader is greeted with the whistle, this will help eliminate the problem entirely.

And the fact that you deliberately call cell phones proves you lack as much respect for the safety of your victims as you lack respect for our privacy.

STOP ALL PHONE SURVEYS NOW. JUST STOP IT. Or deal with the consequences. It's only goint to get worse. You should be thankful we can't reach through the phone and throttle your necks, it's too bad we can't because that would solve the problem FOR GOOD.

I just got a call from the 225-578-8529 about 10 minutes ago...yea they say they wont use your name but they ask for your first name and then how many people live in the house with u. How do they get personal cell phone numbers??? I went through the whole call and they wanted to know how much I made an hour and what yearly salary is....which I did not give and they asked about health insurance..what business is it for them to know???

Dont you think that they should stop calling people????   WHen you dont answer its like they have to make it a mission to jeep on calling till they actually get a live person and when you  ask them to stop calling they  hang up and call u 3 or 4 days later......STOP CALLING PEOPLE.

I get a call from this number about every two weeks for a few months now. I've never answered nor will I ever answer. How they got my new number I have now clue, but that itself is invading my privacy without even asking any of the questions others are saying they had been asked.

This is the first time we've gotten a call from this number (225-578-8529 Caller ID: LSU), and we've literally gotten it about five times in the past... two or three hours. No one's answered it and they leave no voice mail. I think the last one my Gran decided to answer and hang up.
These calls are ridiculous and need to stop.

The National Do Not Call List applies only to telemarketers attempting to sell a product or service.
Since Public Policy Research Lab is doing policy surveys, Do Not Call doesn't apply. Contact the director, Kirby Goidel, to have your number removed.

    Web Page: http://www.survey.lsu.edu/publicpolicylabmrf.html

    Kirby Goidel, Director
    Phone:    (225) 578-7588

I simply answered the call and explained (calmly) that I have no interest in surveys of any kind and they agreed to remove my name and number. The caller was polite

I recently got a call from LSU Public Research on my cell phone and also my phone are registered with the FTC DO NOT CALL so it is obvious LSU does not believe in obeying  the LAWS that the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAS ENACTED TO STOP telemarketers, scam artist, political surveys and the like.

I think I'll answer the next time and just give them the most ridiculous answers that I can come up with.  Just hope I can keep from laughing.  Maybe that will stop the calls to my number.

Received a call during dinner from 225-578-8529.  Only the number appears on caller ID.  According to this web page it appears the number comes from LSU.  The calls are being made to a number on the Fed Do Not Call List.  If the number is actually coming from LSU perhaps, it is time the LA tax payers pursue defunding LSU programs and start calling LSU's president at his home to encourage he respect other people's privacy.
