Just had text from same guy trying to buy something I had on Craig's List.
Too willing to pay asking price and accept condition.
Said he'd send someone to pick it up, and yes, it was for son's birthday.
Read the whole response and immediately thought; "bad JUJU!"

He just wanted to buy something expensive from me by paypal from car.com. Got suspicious because even though I did not say I do not know paypal, he already answerd my question a minute later by sms... intuition..
I quecked the net for the phone number and found this feedback. Thanks - glad found your notes. :-)

The way that this scam works is ... he asks for your paypal account name (which is your email address) so he can send you the money via paypal. You get an email, from what looks to be paypal, stating you have received payment and in the email there is a link that you can click that will take you to the paypal login page. You click on that link and it does take you to a web page that looks exactly like official paypal one. But its a page that is running on this scammer's server. You put in your paypal username and password and click OK. Your paypal login info is now in the posession of the scammer. If you have any money in your paypal account, kiss it good bye.

I am selling a fishing boat for over $2000 and after telling him it was still available, he agreed to buy it .... What kind of person buys a boat without looking at it first? RED FLAG!!

Here is the content of his SMS to me ...
I'm a Molecular biologist / Oceanographer and am currently on sea , im buying it for my son as a Birthday Surprise gift and he doesn't know about it, so can you assure me i will not be disappointed? no shipment involved as i have a mover that will come for the pickup. Im okay with the price and condition , I can only pay you via one of the fastest and secure way to pay online (PayPal).. Do you have a PayPal account?

this guy just text me from Cars.com and said to email him at davebar234@gmail.com so he can buy my $11,000 Sequoia.  Really?!  So I look up his number and find all this!  He claims he's unable to respond back because this number 240-489-5489 is his office phone.  He closes with the Bible (Psalms 149:4)  A real joker.  Like he's not going to get his sometime when he's least expecting it.  Karma...

Same story here just this morning, received the text from the same number saying he wanted to buy for son birthday and he send someone to pick up and for me to give paypal info to. No way am I doing that as he wants to rush this thru and I thinking that if you got paypal, you can wire money. What a joker... stay away fromn this cat, he said his name was Dave Barnett and the phone number was his work so don't text back but email him at his personal gmail account (davebar234).
    AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!

You're not eBay. No need to take Paypal. Sometimes you have to treat the scammers the same way they treat you. Just tell your scammer that you'll be very happy to accept 'Western Union' as a form of payment. Now that we've had our joke, remember Western Union is a wire transfer service. CASH. Never to be used for business, an online purchase, or to send money to someone you do not personally know. Family & friends. Real ones not the internet ones.
