received a call from this number listed as cell phone protection.  i have no idea about this company.  please do not call my cell phone ever.  unwanted call

ProtectCell is the company that Verizon used/uses as one of their third-party insurance carriers if you choose to have insurance on your smartphone.

I don't have phone protection through Verizon and this unwanted text came up twice in a row today. I also am a month away from my contract expiration with Verizon so it makes no sense that it would suddenly be sent to me now. This screams scam or some kind of system breach.

I received an unsolicited text message from this number as follows: "Welcome to ProtectCELL by Fortegra! Please verify your account preferences: http://ftx.co/..." (I won't include the rest of the URL in case it does bad things to anyone who visits it.)  I Googled ProtectCELL & learned it's a real company that offers disaster recover insurance for you cellphone, but I never sought such an account, so I reckon it's some kind of scam that would screw my phone up if I visited the link.  Therefore I didn't visit it.

Actually, I just contacted Verizon and they do not use this company. I would beware of a scam for sure!

The best thing to do is to not reply. If you reply, it verifies that your number is real.

Yep. Just got a new phone for pre existing account and when I put my SIM card I received a text from them.

Text sent to my new phone.  I just dropped Verizon after 19 years and went to Viaero.  New phone and new service.  I contacted my Viaero agent and found out that this is the $9.00/mo cell phone insurance I purchased to cover my phone in case it gets damaged.  I would replace the phone at $200 instead of $600 and can cancel it at any time.  Not a scam number after all
