I got a call from this number today. When I called back it was a recording for a Children's Cancer Charity.

I think it's a scam. They called me to ask if they sent out an envelop could I put a small donation in it. I agreed so then I was transferred to the supervisor for confirmation. Now, the "supervisor" asks "will you be using a credit or debit card? I replied I was told I would receive an envelop to which the "supervisor" replied "we like to use cards because they are faster" or something similar. I hung up. When I called back no one answers but they want you to leave a message with "details" and they will return your call.

I too just got a call from this number.  When I wouldn't commit to the amount and requested that they send information about their organization along with the envelope that they said they would mail, she hung up on me.  Would agree, this is a scam!!

I also received a call Mar 15, 2013 and a woman said she is calling for a charity that helps children with cancer.  She asked if she sent me an envelope could I send back a small amount like twenty dollars.  I never heard of the name she used for the "organization".   I told her that I receive cal;ls daily from charity, political, and any other group seeking funds; and that: 1) The majority of voters have now twice failed to do their homework and elected a smooth talking communist for president whose MOA is to lie and raise taxes while blocking progress to help the nation (example XL pipeline), screwing up our healthcare system, resulting in higher taxes and living expenses, and 2)I now receive more calls for money than ever before.  These factors have caused me to adopt a new policy of NEVER donating to any telephone solicitations, NO EXCEPTIONS.  Have a nice day.

With caller ID if I don't know I just don't answer they can leave a message if it is important. I'm getting a lot of these calls lately ever since I put my phone number on the do not call list. I just don't answer the phone if I don't know who it is anymore.

Got a call from 1 247 817 3751 asking for a donation for children in the hospital with cancer, and when I asked how she got my number, she responded, "Oh it's a nationwide blah blah blah and..." and I said, "because coincidentally, my son died from cancer last year and while I sympathize I prefer to give my money directly to those in the community who are in need," to which she said, "Oh I wish there were more like you but these kids have been given such a raw deal," and I'm thinking, "like I don't freaking KNOW that, having watched my own child die?" And I hung up.

Just got a call that came up on CID as "Children's Cancer."  I answered it and a woman asked for the lady of the house. I responded by asking who was calling. (It always aggravates me that so many, even legitimate callers, do not identify themselves immediately, and ask if I am ____. RUDE!)  She said she was Heather, calling for a professional fund-raising organization, on behalf of the Children's Cancer Recovery Fund.  I interrupted, saying, "I'm interrupting you to tell you that I wish to be placed on your do not call list, and that I do not ever want anyone from your company to call me ever again.  I understand that charities and some other non-profit organizations are exempted from the National Do Not Call List UNLESS the person you have reached explicitly tells you not to call again and asks to be placed on your own Do Not Call List, which I have just done. I have made a note of your name, the date, time, and number from which you are calling.  I will file a complaint if I ever again receive a call from your company."  (This is a script I created and keep several copies handy.) I was pleasant and polite, but firm.  She said, "Oh, OK, I'm sorry.  I'll put you on our Do Not Call List immediately.  Hopefully, now this will work.  I just started doing this a few days ago, and already 2 places that have been calling multiple times a day, have quit -- so far.  Next is to mark junk mail "REFUSED" and toss it into a mail box, and to lobby Congress to make it illegal to spoof the phone number one is calling from.

This is not a scam, but it certainly seems like one.  I shut off my credit card after foolishly giving them the number over the phone (and after reading your posts).  I later received a bill from them, with the logo "Children's Cancer Recovery Foundation."  They have a website which is http://childrenscancerrecovery.org.

I'd suggest anyone interested in donating (as I was) ask for information by mail so that you can review it before deciding to give them any money.

This questionable, and lowly rated "charity", also uses  217 280 4885, where some informative posts may be found concerning their ratings and performance.

What a shame that even IF it is a legitimate "charity" that 35 percent of your donation went to the telemarketers, and not to the people in need. We all need to carefully study things before we make a decision, and a pushy telemarketer's call doesn't give us that chance. Everyone, including myself, learn from their mistakes, hopefully.

Just received a call from this "charity" this morning. My mom answered the phone, and they asked for me. SO when she said hang on, the dumb broad kept talking. When I picked up the phone, she kept going "Hello, hello" and then kept up with her spiel as though there had been no interruption. SO I told her to shut up and hung up on her.

These are robo-calls. I know, I used to be a phone tech, I can outsmart them every time. These systems are getting better everyday, learning responses to more and more scenarios with every call. Ask them something non-sequitor, and they will answer in a non-sequitor. The specifics of this "charity are atrocious, high fees to fund-raising means low percentage to the intended recipients. Not to mention that there are cures to cancer out there being suppressed by the medical establishment - who profit off of prolonging the misery of millions of people. SICKOS!

Do not..repeat DO NOT give to these telemarketers.  There was a local news video that interviewed one of the places that telemarkets for the childrens cancer center and it was revealed that the telemarketers are pocketing 85% of the donations.  DO NOT GIVE THEM A DIME.

The number that called me was 1-248-817-3751.

Today's phone call was from "Vanessa" who stated clearly she was a from a professional fund raising organization who were calling on behalf of AC Services, a children's cancer organization.  It was a recording and its a scam.  These are the same people who called hundreds of times last year under multiple numbers but representing the same scammer charity who pays their Board of Directors handsomely and very little, if any of the donated monies go to the needs of children with cancer.

Don't let others dissuade you from your political beliefs.  You basically told the caller that because of these two factors, you no longer make donations over the phone.  Good for you - and by the way, I got a call from these people, too - same crap.  It is definitely 100% a SCAM.

They hung up on me. I agree; the question is not how much money they collect, the question is how much of it they actually pass on to people who need it. If they keep 95% of the money for themselves, it's not much of a "charity."

Yes, but realize that many scammers will use a foundations name to sound legitimate.
