I noticed on my call display the 250-336-2772 number but we weren't home.  It comes from Cumberland so it was interesting to read 2 other callers had the same phone number contact them.

Just received a call from 250-336-2772:  a man with a thick accent saying he was calling in regards to my visa OR mastercard account.  He knew my name, but didn't know which credit card company I was with.  Usually, when a credit card company calls, they verify the company they are calling from, they verify instantly who you are and ask you your personal question to make sure they know they are talking to the correct person.  This was a very unprofessional call right from the start and rather than answer their questions, I would like them to answer my questions...first wrong answer is reason enough to hang up.  Oh, and he did know my full name but since information like that has been sold to unscrupulous people/companies so that's nothing new.
Just be aware and make the caller work for their answers.  Always ask questions.

I immediately researched where to report this type of scam and discovered the official Canadian anti-fraud centre.  Their website is www.antifraudcentre.ca and their phone number is 1-888-495-8501.  They will ask for your information, a description of the event in question and then talk to you about what to do the next time your receive such a call.  The most important thing to remember, I feel, is that a bona fide company will identify themselves first, they will ask a specific question from you to determine your identity, and it will be extremely professional...identifying, for instance, the credit card in question.  There is no vagueness in their approach and they do not generalize.  Be suspicious.  Be aware.  Protect yourself.

March 22 2012, I received a call with ID showing my Home town ( 250-336-2772).  Caller had an east Indian accent and said he was calling on behalf of my Visa/MasterCard.  He was offering low interest rates, because I make all my payments on time.  He wanted to know the card expiration date, and I found this suspicious.  I then asked who he was, and he hang up.
I think he is attempting to get card information including the security number.

I just got a call from this number. When the call starts he doesn't identify himself or company he is calling from. His call starts off by saying "Good morning, how are you? I am calling about your credit card."
I thought he might have the wrong number so I asked who he is calling. He was calling for Mr or Mrs (my last name) I told him they were not home right now. He continued on by telling me I had an excellent credit rating and was pre-approved for a credit card.  He then stated he needed to verify information to go ahead. (I don't give personal information to blocked names) I asked which credit card company he calling on behalf of (I have two). He hung up. -- There are so many warnings about fraud, I don't trust companies that have to block their name.

Just had a phone call from this phone # 1-250-336-2772, like 5 minutes ago (still pissed about this) The caller has a very strong accent. He knew my last name, but mentionned my visa card: I have a mastercard. Said that I was qualified for a low interest of 6% since I do my monthly payment. He asked me if I had my last statement with me. I said no! He did not stop repeating every single line of his text he has to say, did not let me talk most of the time. When he asked me again about my statement, I told him that if I was qualified, send me all the papers by mail and I will take a look. I think he realized that it won't be easy for him to get me, especially I was very getting very mad, so he got frustrated and hang up...
I don't think you can find a credit card with interest rate that low (never heard of)
And you don't mess with a pregnant woman that has her hormones on the roof!!!

Asked for hubby who couldn't come to the phone.  Then proceeded to talk to me about his credit card!  Said he was from Visa/Mastercard with a deal on the credit card too good to be true.  Said he was able to lower the interest rate on hubby's card AND get a refund for interest paid over and above the new rate.  Clearly a SCAM.  A legit crew doesn't discuss details of a credit card with someone else.  Visa and MC are competitors (or so I thought), and even though he sounded like he knew details about the card, he actually didn't!
