They call my house starting at 7am, and call every few hours until 10 or 11pm! If it truly was the NC dep of revenue, I really doubt anyone would be calling after 5 or 6 pm. Especially since they are state employees that have no third shift schedules and don't generally operate on holidays either. [I know that because my dad worked for the NCDOT for 30 years!]

I have just received one of those phone calls after 5pm.  There was an automated message saying it was the department of revenue wanting to speak with someone at my phone number.  All very strange.  If they wanted something from me I believe they would contact me by mail unless it was that critical and I was avoiding them for some reason.  Of course with an automated message, they didn't specify who they wanted to speak with or even what it was about.  I am not responding to these calls unless someone contacts me by mail on official NC letterhead.  The Number they said to call was 877-252-4962, the number they were calling from was 252-467-9095.  I may in fact call the NC and inform them of this call, see if they actually wanted to talk with me about something, then suggest to them that the prerecorded messages I received were better made by someone who speaks clearly and doesn't have their net worth hanging from their ears.

My husband got a call yesterday at 7:15pm on his work phone (which number we have never used on any tax return or otherwise). He didn't pick up so whomever left a voice message stating it was the NCDOR and we owed them money and needed to call back ASAP. Of course, he immediately got upset with me asking why I hadn't paid the DOR.  I told him it was a scam call because NCDOR owes US money, not the other way around.  I am reporting the number from caller id (252-467-9095) to the Attorney General of NC shortly.  This is ridiculous.

It's a scam.  They started sending me supposed letters from the North Carolina Internal Revenue saying I owed $3,000 in taxes.  I've never even been to North Carolina.  I called the California Internal Revenue and had to go through this long process just to find out if someone had been using my SS number.  As it turned out, nobody had and there was no record of any income from North Carolina.  I mailed them copies of the letter and never received another one, but now I got a phone call today.  You can just ignore them.  Total scam.

This was a legitimate call from the Division of Employment Security answering a question I had sent them via email regarding my benefits when my current long-term assignment ends.  The person who left a message was very kind and professional, and left the number, 888-737-0259, Option 2 to call back to get further assistance.

Recording stating they needed to speak to someone at this number.

I got a call on my cell from this number today, the msg said they needed to speak to the person at this number, seems odd that they wouldn't state a name for said person they're trying to reach! I didn't bother to call the # they left, my taxes are paid & they cashed the check :)

Got this call after 7pm on a Tuesday. I'm in NC but don't have any sort of business, nor have I ever. Hell I haven't even worked this year (in school). But hey in 15 days I might make some money off of them!

I just got this call from 877-252-4962 , its listed on the North Carolina Revenue as the number for their Automated calls....so the number seems legit and underneath the call number before I answered it said North Carolina...but don't understand why they called at 7:40pm , and called my cell phone that we never use on taxes. We file our taxes soon as we get our W-2 with state and federal , and its been accepted by them and received by us back in February....we are diligent about our taxes , and everything we do. I'm a little freaked out. Not sure what it could be....thinking there is a chance someone had this # before , but I have had it 5 years. Ugggh.....call during the darn day!

I revieved this same msg did you ever hear anything else about it?

In an effort to assist more taxpayers during the upcoming tax filing period, the North Carolina Department of Revenue will operate extended phone hours beginning October 1 through October 31, 2012. The deadline for filing individual income returns for taxpayers who received extensions last April is October 15, 2012.

Live phone assistance will be available for certain topics from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday. Those areas with extended service include phone lines for:

Individual income, attachment and garnishment issues at 1-877-252-3252 or 1-877-252-5152
Employer garnishment questions at 1-888-352-0116
Options to speak to an agent in the individual income tax menu at 1-877-252-3052
Taxpayers who callback after receiving a message from NCDOR's automated dialing system at 1-877-252-4962

All others lines for live telephone assistance will remain open between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday.

Got a call from this number, and after one minute of silence, a recorded female voice tells me that the NC dept of revenue is "trying to reach a person at this number regarding an important matter", and to return the call between 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM, M-F. But this call was received after 6:00 PM. Creepy and disturbing and seems fake.
