I got a message from this # on my answering machine & it said they this was my 2nd notice & the IRS was going to sue me. I called the # back & all it says is the person you are trying to reach is unavailable. This is definitely a scam. I do not owe any taxes or anything. Be aware.

I got a call from this number...it shows up as "unknown" on my cell...with the recorded message that I am being or will be sued by the IRS.

I am a 30 year tax professional even though I have no letters after my name (CPA, JD). I know how the IRS works. They DO NOT call you on the phone from an unknown number and advise you of a lawsuit against you by them. The IRS always contacts taxpayers via mail or certified mail and they use standard letters to advise you of what the issue is, giving you a set number of days to respond. In some instances, if you agree to their inquiry, no response is necessary.

This is clearly a scam. I would advise not calling the number back as that may confirm that your number is a working number. You might end up on other scam calling lists.

Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

Received VM to call this number - that the IRS was filing suit.  I returned the call and spoke to someone who would not identifiy himself.  Hung up and called back. The second time I was given an agent name and badge ID. When I pressed for more info I was told that it was a mistake and they had contacted the wrong person.

Received 3 calls today from this number. Definitely a scam. The IRS never calls and demands money. If the IRS wants you, they send you a letter.

Tamianth and Slim offer good advice as do several others on here. Unless YOU have initiated contact with the IRS and spoken with someone, you'll hear nothing from them by telephone. Disregard calls and instructions from impostors and report them to the link Tamianth provides.

Total scam.  Originates in either India or Pakistan.    Ignore and block the calls.  Read the other posts.

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.   Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest.    If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

Had a voicemail message saying it was my final notice and the IRS was going to file a lawsuit against me.  I've had to pay the IRS a couple times in the past but never received calls. I was always contacted through certified mail and asked to contact them. Still unsure I called the number left out of a bit of concern and anger.  The first time an Indian man answered, whom I could barely understand, asking if I was someone else and when I said,  "NO, you must have the wrong number!" He hung up or disconnected me.  Furious I called back and got the same guy.  This time he said to hold on while he pulled my file.  Again I was disconnected or hung up on.  As my anger grew I tried calling several more times and that's when my mind started thinking this might be a scam which is how I cam across this information online.
