Called and left no message.

IRS scam.

Indian accent guy called saying he was John White. The initial voice-mail sound american (i think). He called saying a bunch of lies about putting my mom into jail for a pending balance due to a bunch of law codes that he listed. He said that he was going to sign the papers for the warrant unless I go and get a Goverment Income Tax Bond from a store and that a IRS CPA will come to my house and pick it up. Once I started saying that it was a scam he now does not pick up the phone.

These are criminal extortionists operating in overseas boiler rooms using VOIP to alter their identities and locations and out of the reach of US law enforcement.

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.

By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.

Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.

They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.

Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.

The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.

If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.

Got a phone call from this number today. Indian accent, could barely understand the guy. Claimed I had an arrest warrant from the IRS. It's a scam.

As I picked up the phone it was just a recorded message from an Indian accent male stating he was from the sheriffs department and i was under an investigation and to call back to go over my case.

Same as above thick indian accent stating that his name was officer white and that if I didn't pay the IRS for a mistake made in 2008 (about $1,500.00) that there would be a warrant for my arrest and that this issue needs to be resolved right away. He left me a msg 2 days ago than called again today leaving another msg about me paying this back debt otherwise IRS will have a warrant for my arrest. I called this phone number and mr. white (Kalapriya dahana shiva or whatever mr. whites real name is) answered and I told him that I didn't give a @%&* who he was but that he had better not call my home anymore. If there is a problem don't call me to settle a dispute but send me legal papers from IRS. I don't do legal business through a phone call. He hung up on me.

I got 2 calls from 253-843-6461  which prompted me to search online.... and guess what i found (besides this very useful post)
Well..
This scammer uses a bunch of other numbers.  202-241-2308 and others. Many stories on the internet and they all have same voicemail message in common.

So why doesn't the FBI do anything about it?
Well..  Caller ID can be spoofed.

Which is why you should protect your voicemail access with a password - because many systems don't ask for a password if the number spoofed as the caller ID number is in their system, they will happily play your voicemails to the scammer spoofing your number... just like you don't get prompted for a password when you call your own number to listen to your voicemail.....

The only way to catch these criminals is to parse IP traffic - which our government does anyways under the wraps of course... but they can't come out and say it.

Got two calls from this number, 253-843-6164. Obviously a scam. The called made a threat against.

We've just got some phone calls from this guy saying my mother owed the IRS $1,500 dollars and that if we didn't pay she would go to jail. He said his name was Mike Robinson, he had this strong Indian accent making it difficult to understand the dude, and as soon as I asked him where his  accent was from he hung up.

Got a call from 253-843-6164. The caller ID showed Roy WA. I answered and it was a recording that said that he was from the IRS and needed to talk to me. His accent was possibly Indian/Pakastani and was extremely hard to understand. I called back to see what it was about but there was another recording that the person at that number was busy and to leave a number. I hung up realizing it was some sort of scam as the IRS would not have a recording answer recorded calls. They would put you on hold for an hour.

Got a call from 253-843-6164. yesterday 3 time  had fun playing along with this [***]

The same John White Indian accent [***] called my ex- wife's house and said he was with the IRS and had a warrant out for arrest for non payment of taxes, which I knew to be [***].I called him back and asked him which agency he worked for for the IRS, he hung up on me, and subsiguince calls were not answered.

Got a call from 253-843-6164.  John White, indian accent. He left a message and I called back with no answer.  I left a message, no IRS identification in the voicemail.

IRS scam, saying you have evaded income taxes and that the federal marshals have a warrant for you unless you pay.

Got a call from 253-843-6164, his name Michael Robinson, indian accent.  He said that I have a warrant.  I asked, from what year? He hung up on me.  I called back, no IRS information

Got 2 vm from same john white with an indian accent saying he is calling from IRS & that there is a warrant for me & my address was under criminal investigation. My husband called the # back & got a vm saying not avail. We left no mssg & immediately got a callback. My husband told him if he keeps  calling we r reporting this to the state police. And don't you know, he hung up.  No call yet

Same as everyone else above, an Indian accent male left a voice mail saying I am under investigation and to call him back to go over my case.  Looks like a scam from everyone's posts here so I will ignore this.

I got that message today. It really scared me. Are you guys sure its a scam? I am afraid by this phone call. Why would someone fake phone calls like this?

They are making these calls to scare you into sending them money by some untraceable means.  Like money cards.   They claim bad things will happen to you and all your assets, but that they can make the whole thing go away i f you just send them the money.  Total scam. Don't fall for i. Do NOT send them any money.

IRS does not file lawsuits.   Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS has no powers of arrest.    If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job.  IRS does not cold call anyone and ask for money. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.
