Did you get a call from 269-768-2910? Read the posts below to find out details about this number.

This number is in an ad in The State newspaper in Columbia SC that says "Collector Wants Old Bottles.. Paying cash for old bottles. Looking for bottles that took cork stoppers..Call Ted 269-492-5539.. Located in Columbia"
I put a manually operated switch on our main phone line so I can switch it over to a FAX machine when I see a tele-marketer's number on the caller ID (you can also make use of an old computer modem for this). That way all they get is the squeal of the FAX modem in their ear.
Seems to be somewhat effective at preventing on-going calls. They usually give up after a few squeals (presumably concluding there's no person at that number). Just to be sure, I switch the line back after it's squealed for 10 seconds or so ... don't want to let them think they can successfully send me junk FAXes. #;-))
The other things we do:
- NEVER answer any questions when you don't know who's calling and, if it's a tele-marketer, tell them to stop calling and hang up (no discussion, just inform then hang up)
- use caller ID and an answering machine to screen ALL calls ... set the answering machine to answer after a large number of rings (7 or more) as many tele-marketers won't wait through that many rings
- to combat the machine-driven "I'll play you a 3 minute ad" -- MACY's!!! -- strategy, if you're not sure, don't speak when you answer as these machines are voice-triggered ... if you don't get some talking from them after 5-10 seconds, just (note the number) then hang up -- from then on, give 'em the FAX treatment
- if you can ID the company they're calling for, phone/write the company (preferably an executive in marketing) and let them know that this kind of advertising has only lost them your business and that you'll NEVER react in any other way to tele-marketing
... and MOST OF ALL, vote with your dollars (don't deal with companies that use tele-marketers) and let them know that you're voting with your dollars!
I get a call from this number daily. Do not call it back because for one thing, your phone bill can get worse for calling long distance. Number two, the number apparently isn't disconnected, otherwise you wouldn't get a phone call from them. They probably have a machine saying the number is disconnected or it's just a recorded message saying that. I'm from the U.S. of course.
vancouver, b.c. here. i just received my first call from these jokers. i never answer any calls from any number i do not recognize, even if it is local.
here is where the area code listing told me where the location is from.
SW Michigan: Kalamazoo, Saugatuck, Hastings, Battle Creek, Sturgis to Lake Michigan (split from 616)
Got a call today for first time OFC on caller ID. I didn't answer, they didn't leave msg. Looks like a telemarketer now moving into the Iowa area code. I just block these calls on my HP all in one, put in the phone number under junk blocker, and when they call it just rings once then hangs up on them. Everyone one should have a junk blocker fax hooked into their phone line, works great.
Same thing here. Checked the number on google and found out it is Bellevue, MI. What the hell are they trying to pull? I didn't get the recording, I heard nothing. From what I hear, a computer dials a bunch of numbers from their list, and the first one to answer gets the recording, the rest get hung up on. Glad to know not to hit 9 if the I DO get the recording. Thanks! I am in East Central Indiana, by the way.
Oh, and the reason you get that "not in service" recording when you call back, is because they use auto-dialing computers, and they are not set up to receive incoming calls.
This same number called us 6-5-08. Sure glad we didn't answer it! There ought to be some way in this day of such "high tech" to actually find the scoundrels who are making these calls, and from the sounds of it - invading people's personal information - actually a form of robbery, if they are indeed using this "press #9" in order to access your number, enabling them to use your number at will, racking up phone charges to your phone number without your knowledge! Where's our protection from this kind of invasion!? By the way, we live in the central part of the US, so they must be calling everywhere.
I believe theres another one the number might is 1-269-768-2033.They have called my cell 3 times tonight and don't leave a voicemail or nothing.Someone told me that number is somekinda giveaway of lottery you've won.Remember this people theres nothing in this world for free....Good luck..Stay safe
I got a call from this number (269-768-2910) 4:23 pm EST. I don't answer calls unless I know who is calling. I've gotten them before and have reported them before - maybe not exactly here but somewhere. Does this get turned in to the FCC? Or am I just wasting my time filling these things out? I think it is totally ridiculous to have to put up with a call from some jerk that I did not want to talk to in the first place
