I received the same prize notice with what looks like a legitimate check from Office Depot. It is drawn on Citizens State Bank in Ciara City, Mn. I am instructed to call 1-289-894-002 to claim the balance of my prize...

THIS IS A SCAM. This is a version of the advance-fee-for-something scam where something is a grant, loan, lottery winnings, interest rate reduction, tax reduction, gift card, refund, doggie, cruise, vacation, free gas, etc., and the advance-fee is for tax, shipping, registration, insurance, secure handling, processing, etc. They may send you a fake check, may want your credit/debit card or bank account number, or tell you to wire cash via Western Union, Moneygram, etc. They can put recurrent difficult-to-cancel monthly charges or a 1-time charge on your card or bank account, and sell account info to other criminals and you'll have to replace accounts altogether. Wired-cash is irretrievable - once it's picked up at the other end, it's untraceable and gone. If they want you to call them up for instructions, they may tell you not to discuss the wire with Western Union desk clerks but the real reason is WU clerks are familiar with these scams and will warn you not to wire the money. Report to US Postal Service Inspectors https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/forms/MailFraudComplaint.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG, as appropriate.

I received a letter too, and a $3,890.00 check. Funny the way the ask no to cash the "check" and to keep the whole issue confidential! The sad part is that every year, hundreds of people fall victims of these criminals.

Received this in the mail and immediately knew it was a scam.  Why does it have to be kept secret until you call.  I googled the number and it's a cell number.  This is pathetic and I hope others don't fall for the oke doke.

Got the same bogus Office Depot check for $3,980.00 from Canada (no return address). Thanks for the mailfraud link I reported this as I can see how folks can be fooled by this.

They put an international # 011447031881017 when I was searching around the web looks like this is from Nigeria. In the letter they make it seem like the # is for the UK.

heyyyyyy!!!!! i have gotten a letter 3 days ago from the same place. i immediately felt in my heart that it was a hoax . I feel that it is an opportunity for whoever he is to get access to ur account and wipe out all ur funds and mess up ur credit. His name was Michael Quest( claiming agent). He had an arabic accent. and when i talked to him to asked him about the prize, he had the voice of a slyster and was very excited as if he just persuaded an innocent, naive young girl into believing this nonsense. That's what i felt about it.you are not dumb people , we all know when we are being fool, it's just that when we need money real bad we will believe anything.  TO one sister to another( spiritually). USE THAT KEEN SENSE!!!! GOD BLESS

This is a scam. The check looks as good as they come though.

I received the same offer in the mail, check for $3980, total prize $150,000.00. I called Citizens State bank, was told the check was fraudlent, any check from an Office depot account for over $3000 was fraudlent. Then I called the number on the letter, the person who answered said his name was Michael Quest, I asked him where he was located, he replied Las Vegas, Nevada, since I live in Las Vegas I asked him where he was located so I could come over and meet him to discuss this in person, he told me to never call this number again, and if I did he would have me killed.
