Please beware of this number.  Supposedly, it is the IRS criminal department calling where they will provide you with a badge number and case number where you have to pay a fee for tax fraud.  This is completely false, do not pay it, call your local sheriff department and report them, like the fraud they are.  They will inform you that the sheriff department will come to your house and serve you with the documents and arrest you for the fraud you have committed.  This is the scare tactic they used so you could pay them immediately, don't buy into it.  The local sheriff department does not get involve with this matter.  The IRS have their own policing force which is part of the treasury department.  Besides, the IRS will make numerous attempts via certified mail to make sure you have received the documents before calling.  I am hoping this note will help someone.

Yes. The recorded message was that I needed to call immediately if I didn't want to risk dire consequences from the IRS. I knew it was fraud immediately.

Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

just happened with me. They said i owed $5,000 to the Irs. If i didn't  pay they will inform the sheriff to come and arrest me or have me and my family deported back to Mexico and have to pay 20,000 back in debt

Just received a threatening message from these people.  DO NOT believe this, it's a scam.  Calls like this have cheated millions out of people in the past.  I received similar calls last year like this.  The IRS usually contacts by mail, not over the phone.  Don't fall for it.

PHONE CALL FROM 301-760-2124 ON 4-10-2015 AT 11:58 AM PST

I GOT A CALL YESTERDAY 4-10-2015 FROM A COMPUTER OPERATED SYSTEM, IDENTIFYING ITSELF AS THE IRS AND TO CALL BACK IMMEDIATELY. WHEN I CALLED BACK A MAN ANSWERED THE PHONE GAVE ME MY NAME, ADDRESS,  BIRTH DATE AND LAST FOUR NUMBERS OF MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. HE TOLD ME THAT SOMEONE HAD FILED A COMPLAINT AGAINST ME FOR TAX FRAUD FROM THE IRS. WHEN I TOLD HIM I WAS ALREADY WORKING WITH A REVENUE OFFICER, HE SAID THANK YOU AND HUNG UP. I CALLED BACK AGAIN AND THEY WOULD NOT TALK TO ME OTHER THAN TO SAY I WOULD BE RECEIVING SOMETHING IN THE MAIL. I TRIED TO CALL THEM BACK AGAIN USING*67 AND THEY REFUSED TO ANSWER THE PHONE. MAY THEY BURN IN HELL.

Yup, just happened to me too. left a message to call the IRS, time sensitive issue and all that jazz. Thanks for all the above comments, this helps me to reinforce my initial gut feeling that it was nothing but a fraud

I got home and checked my voicemail, I had a message from a women she said that she stated that she was calling from IRS and that if I don't return the call I will be charged for fraud, so of course I flipped out and when I called the number back the phone rang several times a man with a heavy accent pick up and said that I called after hours. So I spoke to my boss about the issue she advised that it was  surely a scam, that IRS do not make phone calls they will send you a letter, so I felt whole lot better.  So, I too will report this 301-760-2124

4/17/15  Same call, it was a recorded voice indicating I need to call IRS  immediately , shame is, I can't even tell it to go to hell!  :-)

Today I got a prerecorded message from this phone # 301-760-2124, introducing the caller as an IRS employee and requesting immediate call back to this number to avoid actions IRS is going to start against me, suggesting to discuss it first.
But first thing I did was to make a search for this phone # in the WEB, and I found this chat.
Then I called them, and was told that I have very serious problems with IRS, and was requested to give them my criminal attorney phone #, probably to make an impression of seriousness of this "case" :).
I responded that this is exactly what I am going to do, and they will hear soon from my criminal attorney because they are cheaters, and I'll file a complain against them for a fraud.
After short period of mess, when they talked to each other quietly, while still attempting to ask me some stupid questions, they disconnected.
Really thanks everybody for posting their notes here, it helps a lot to avoid being caught by these scammers.
