DEA Warns Public of Extortion Scam by
DEA Special Agent Impersonators
The Drug Enforcement Administration is warning the public about criminals posing as DEA special agents or other law enforcement personnel as part of an international extortion scheme.
The criminals call the victims (who in most cases previously purchased drugs over the lnternet or by telephone) and identify themselves as DEA agents or law enforcement officials from other agencies. The impersonators inform their victims that purchasing drugs over the lnternet or by telephone is illegal, and that enforcement action will be taken against them unless they pay a fine. In most cases, the impersonators instruct their victims to pay the "fine" via wire transfer to a designated location, usually overseas. If victims refuse to send money, the impersonators often threaten to arrest them or search their property. Some victims who purchased their drugs using a credit card also reported fraudulent use of their credit cards.
Impersonating a federal agent is a violation of federal law. The public should be aware that no DEA agent will ever contact members of the public by telephone to demand money or any other form of payment.
The DEA reminds the public to use caution when purchasing controlled substance pharmaceuticals by telephone or through the Internet. It is illegal to purchase controlled substance pharmaceuticals online or by telephone unless very stringent requirements are met. And, all pharmacies that dispense controlled substance pharmaceuticals by means of the lnternet must be registered with DEA. By ordering any pharmaceutical medications online or by telephone from unknown entities, members of the public risk receiving unsafe, counterfeit, and/or ineffective drugs from criminals who operate outside the law. In addition, personal and financial information could be compromised.
Anyone receiving a telephone call from a person purporting to be a DEA special agent or other law enforcement official seeking money should refuse the demand and report the threat.

http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/pubs/pressreleases/extortion_scam.htm - Austin TexasAnthony Williams called . He had called me about 1 year ago and had me believing himas he asked for money. I put him on hold and called the DEA and they told me it was a scam. When I came back on line he was gone.
Today I asked his badge number (he told me 76331) and his supervisior (Thomas Harrigan) He became very intemedating as I asked questions. He went straight into saying they were on they way to my house now to arrest me, he would see me in court on Wednesday and hung up.
Is there a way to block this call and these types of calls in the future ? It is very scary even though
you know it is a scam.- Caller: DEA
- Aurbrey| 1 reply"DEA Agent" wannabe Anthony called this morning. Told him to shove up his Ass I that I giving his number to the State's Attorney General.
- Caller: n/a
- Pissed off replies to AurbreyI also got a call from this Anthony Williams guy. He left a message that sounded shady so I Googled the number and I found this blog. Ever since I got this phone number back in 2006, I have been getting calls from different offshore pharmacies asking for someone named "Martin." I have told them countless times that it's the wrong # and to take my info out of their system. I am sure that this Anthony Williams guy got my number from the same data base. I guess the guy that had my number before was named "Martin" and he probably bought pharmaceuticals off the internet. Probably why he changed his number!!!
The sad part about this is the fact that this Anthony Williams guy has obviously called many people in the last few weeks. How many do you think has actually paid him? How did they pay? Money order, credit card, routing # and account # ?
How does someone like this get caught??? - KCI got a call from a man claming to be a DEA "agent Anthony Williams" he said that they had been investigating me for the past 5 years that I had bought illegal drugs online / internet from another Country and that it was conceded smuggling drugs into the Country and that police officers would be at my door in the next 10 to 15 minutes to arrest me and that I would have to spend 72 hours in jail and that he would see me Monday morning in court.

- TDMr. Williams left a message, saying he was from the D.E.A. and to call back- very important. I was intrigued so I gave him a call. Mr. Williams has a very heavy latin accent, but from what I could make out, a team of officers was headed my way with a search warrant. I asked why was that- oh- it's your online Ambien purchase. Well, I told him I was eating my breakfast oatmeal and could not be disturbed. He flew into a rage and told me it would be three days in a call before I saw a judge. I had a good laugh and hung up.
I give them 4 out of 5 stars for imagination, 2 out of 5 for execution and zero out of 5 for getting me to part with my money.- Caller: The DEA, according to Mr. Williams
- Call type: Telemarketer
- TDToday, I called Mr. Williams back to have a little fun. I got a recorded message and hung up. About 2 minutes later Mr. Williams aka Fidel Castro called me back. I gave a fake name and said I'd been worried sick about his call.
He started to get up a head of steam threatening me with his swat team arriving soon and a topper from yesterday, I would be sent to the Dominican Republic to serve my 7 year sentence. I couldn't keep a straight face any longer and burst out laughing. Poor guy had a tough way to start the day, but I had a good laugh thinking about how tough it must be for him to come into work everyday. Just for fun, I think I'll call the cops in Maryland and stir it up a bit.- Caller: Again, the DEA according to Mr. Willliams
- Call type: Telemarketer
- BGI received a similar call back in October but I never called back. Then just a few days ago I received another call this time from someone claiming to be Robert Hill at 619-356-5800. He said it was critical that I call him back within the hour, that my name had come up in a criminal investigation. Failure to do so would result in a warrant for my arrest as well as a search warrant. Funny thing is the number is actually registered to some other name in Westmorland, CA and I live in south Florida.
- Caller: Supposedly the DEA
