This is a scam from someone or some people that started occurring last year. They claim to be from Microsoft and tell you that you have problems with your computer, hoping you'll fall prey and let them into your computer to access all of your personal information, of course including bank accounts. This happened to me last year and twice today. Yes, it sounded like a man from India. He knew my first and last name. The first call came up as Private Caller, a few hours later it came with this number and it sounded like the same person. I'm assuming that they take note of the fact that most tech support these days is done with people from that area. This is about the time people are getting their tax refunds. Last year it was around December, I believe-when people would have on their computers bank statements and credit card accounts/statements from buying gifts. It is very easy to disguise your voice to sound like whoever you want. You can buy a gadget online that can make an American woman's voice sound like a man's voice and even with an accent to make them sound foreign. This needs looking into. Again.

I forgot to mention this call came up as coming from Oxon Hill, MD and the area code matches the location.

I get this call about every other month.  Supposedly my computer ip address is telling them that I am not receiving updates.  They are always very pushy; wanting to "take control of your computer" to fix it.   I just don't trust folks I do not know.  If I initiated the call that would be different but I think microsoft would have a better way to handle this if it is legit.

Got this call at 5:25 am, very disrupting since I have one phone that resides in my office on the other side of the house. My caller ID said Core VOIP, so I picked up and hung up without saying anything. The only reason I had to wake up and look is because my elderly parents live on the mainland and it could be an emergency. Adding this scam to my block list.

This man said I filled out something at a grocery store to win a free trip and he asked if I remembered. I told him I only do raffles and stuff like that at the navy exchange so no. And he hung up on me.

I got a call from 301 965 7839, it was an Indian man in what sounded like a very crowded area. He kept breaking up and repeating himself. He said he was from either the National Grand Center or National Grant Center. I'm on the donotcall list at donotcall.gov, so it surprises me that I still get these.

I just got this call at 10:58am, it was a 301 area code and lately I've been getting so many calls from unknown numbers I just hang up, but as I read through the other complaints for this number it's about a non-working computer scam, I do have a computer but it's my cousins, so I don't get why this caller is calling me instead of my cousin.

My cell # received a call from (301) 965-7839 on July 1, 2014 at 10:47am.  Didn't know the number or area code so let voice mail take it.  So. The called hung up no message.  But now since reading these posts glad I didn't answer. All of our telephones are listed on the DO NOT CALL list.  And as a reminder, which I didn't know but read on another unwanted caller list site,  every few years you must go on website and register again.  They only hold your registered numbers for so long, as people's nimbers change, new phones, etc.

    No.
The Federal DNC list no longer requires re-registration.
Your number is registered "forever", unless you change it.

Also remember that the DNC list does not block calls ... it is intended to tell legitimate telemarketers that you prefer not to be called.  Scammers, politicians, charities, pollsters and some other organizations are either exempt or ignore the DNC list.

Wanna know what you do most these people have an Internet Connection and a Magic Jack, its simple 3 rules to getting pass this scam.

1: Call your bank, This is so they can't charge you. These people have no morals and will find a way to steal your loot

2: Call Magic Jack Customer Service report the number to them so they can block that number before the scammer calls someone else... These people need to buy a new number every time one is blocked

3: If they are not with Magic Jack, look up the number on Google and call that phone company. Trust me no Phone company wants these crooks using their system.. The Phone Company could possible be sued and they don't want that

I received a call from this number, and the man that answered the phone adivised that this was a loan company and asked if i wanted a loan because it was a loan company.  When i advised that i wanted my number removed from their calling list he hung up in my face.  I called back and the call he just disconnected. I thought i would give him a dose of his own medicine. called back about 5 times until he finally answered and asked how could he help me.  I asked "are you going to remove my number now".  He said "of course, yes I will.   I hope he calls back.  I go another round with him.

Thank goodness for caller ID!  When I get a call from a number not in my phone as a legit caller I look the number up online, usually find that it's a scammer & duly enter into my phone as SCAMMER.  Then if they ever call again I immediately know.  Can't they come up with a more honest way of making a living?!

If I don't know who it is, I simply don't answer.  My answering machine has the error tone you get when a number is not in service, and it is set not to take messages but just hangs up on them.  Simple solution.

The company that called you.
