someone said he was with the US embasy in Mali

Answered the call and the party on the other end hung up.  I called them back, but got a message saying the call can not be completed as dialed.  Area code 301 is from Maryland.

This number has called twice now.  Never left a message.  Caller ID says it is "Department of St" (Department of State).  When I call back it says the number cannot be completed as dialed (which would indicate it's NOT a USA number).

My job takes me to West Africa and I have a feeling this is part of some sort of con associated with Nigeria/Ghana.

I have a friend who works for Dept. of State out of the US and this number always comes up. It's not a "real number" it just a quasi number for embassys who for obvious reasons can't have thier number revealed.

Answered call from 301-985-2070.  There was no one on the other end.  The caller id showed call was from Department of State.  I called number.  Recording said that number could not be completed as dialed.

I received another call from 301-985-2070.  This time someone was on the other end.  It was a friend assigned to an embassy in West Africa.  It appears that this is a legitimate Department of State number.

I believe this is a valid number used by the U.S. State Department, probably for embassy use.  It appears to be 100% legitimate.

I received a call from 301-985-2070 last night at 10pm . She said she was a ex-husband's friend and my ex-husband asked her transfer a box to me. She knew my personal profile and she asked me about my present and my address which she can send me a box . I belived her and gave her my address . I was considered who she is when I hung off the phone . I really worried about that !She spoke Vietnamese and I though she worked for INS .

How you know the phone number 301-985-0270 comes from oversea U.S embassy?

I received a call from a Vietnamese woman (called herself Ly) claiming that she has a present for me from one my relative who lives in Viet Nam.  I gave her my address believing the story.  I hope this is not a scam to get my address for something serious.

this number is located in mexico city. its the department of state in the mexican embassy. i know this because i talk to a mr. thomas personally. its also a pager number. he helps with missing people cases.

The caller ID said US Department of State. The person was located in Washington,DC and was asking for Lisa Baton (wrong number). She said that person used to be working in Department of State in Arlington, VA. I guess this number is a real US Department of State phone number, Washington DC. They use this number to protect the security of the agency.

the phone # is a us embassy my son is stationed in Uganda and when he calls me this number shows up

no voice mail messge but I did apply for a job at the state department the day before.

Anytime someone call to someone outside of the State Department a realistic, but fake number is generated which is what shows on your caller id. This is true for a number of US govt agencies.

If they're really trying to get hold of you, they'll call again.
