- CrystalI was called today by a guy by the name of Henry. He said I had an outstanding payday loan from 2012. I was like really? Yeah ok. He wanted me to give him my email address and other information. I said If I had an outstanding payday loan, then you would already have this information. He got very upset and started threatening to call my superiors on my job because I am a police officer. He didn't even know the company I supposedly got a loan from. He hung up the phone and tried to get my boss's information from the station officers. He clearly is a scam artist. sounds like an older man, then he gets real indignant when you start questioning him. I told him, I live in Md, take me to court if I owe you any money. That's call due process!

- SheilaI just received a call from a man by the name of Herbert Carlyle from this number. He said that he had been looking for me for quite some time and that he had called my job but was told that I didn't work there anymore. I asked him where did I work and he said he couldn't tell me an I asked him where he worked and he hung up! his fool is crazy and stupid all at the same time. Damn scam artists!!
- Patricia| 1 replyCalled and stated that I had a payday loan from 2013. Told me that they were taking out a civil suit on me in my county and he knew the county and my bank and my e-mail. I don't know what to do. He also called my work and told me that they could garish my wages.

- Slim replies to PatriciaA phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:
* Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money. ["Written" means snailmailed - US Mail ... not emailed or texted]

Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via Green Dot, MoneyGram, Western Union, prepaid gift card or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.
IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:
