Caller stating they are an attorneys office, filing a lawsuit.

I just got a call from the same number--3 times over the weekend, too.  They said exactly the same thing--that a lawsuit had been filed against me and all this legal sounding talk.  However, when they started giving me the "specifics" of the case, I confronted them on some inaccuracies on their part.  The end result: "Ok, meester, I weel haff to inbestigate dis eessue furter and giff you a call back een a few dayce..."    Yeah, right.

Basically, they said that I had taken out a Payday loan and had not repayed it.  There are a couple of major problems here.  #1) Yes,I took out a payday loan (not even 3 weeks ago) but NOT with their company and #2) it's not due until today and the company will be doing a automatic deduction from my checking account.

Here's another interesting thing.  As I'm documenting this call, I get a call from yet another company WITH THE EXACT SAME script!!  Only this time, I started off telling them they were full of crap and that I did not have a payday loan with them and then I told them that they would need to provide more proof than simply having my social security number and email address.  Simply applying for a payday loan does not obligate me to anything--especially when I never accepted it!  This guy told me that I would need to pay the settlement amount of over $600 to "make it go away"...  I told him he was going to have to do better than that because I wasn't falling for his extortion.  He conveniently hung up the phone while I was talking...imagine that!  ;-)

I to was called from this number four times in a row requesting to speak to me about a loan from CASH ADVANCE that I did not get.  He tells me that I have to pay him some $900 or there will be legal action against me.  Tells me that there is a lawsuit pending in my name and my SSN.  I have asked for the particulars of this so called loan and they keep giving me conflicting information - different dates the loan was taken out and different amounts of the loan.  These guys are scammers.  I have asked them to send me all the information by mail but they never have.  Then they want me to fax them a letter giving them my bank information and a statement that I did not intend to default on this loan and that they could take money out of my checking account.  Sorry, no way.

i too have been receiving the same calls.....saying i took out a payday loan, which i did too but not due till next week....and they are calling every minute......

Yes, this number has called my cellphone several times over the past week. It was some with a strong accent from India. They left message twice saying the following:

"This is officer John Peterson from the department of law and investigation. We have a serious issue against you, so call us immediately. Our callback number is 303-351-9669. Do not disregard this mesage as this is as it a serious and time sensitive matter. If I do not hear back from you I wish you good luck as the situation unfolds in court."

They called me today (09/08/11) while at work 3 times. I disregarded the call each time, but kept calling until I decided to answer on their 3rd attempt. The told me they were federal fraud investigators and that a lawsuit was file against me and that I will be taken to court. I told them to send me the information, but they gave me the run around, telling me I need to contact my lawyer and have him there in court. I spoke with the person that initially called and then his supervisor. Again it was two folks with strong Indian accents.

Then they told me that they represent cash advance loans and that I took out a loan with one of the many vendors the cash advance has and that I refuse to pay them back. They even when as far to tell me some of my information (address, who I work for and cellphone number).

Then they gave me a choice to either settle the case out of court or have it resolve in court. They also threaten that I can face a fine for a couple thousand dollars, lose my job and go to jail.

This is sick and I am reporting this to the FTC. I should not be harrased while at work or at home.

They tokd me and my wife the same thing and when I called them.out on it all of a sudden he got defensive. I just love how they said for years the company had been trying to collect from a bank account that we didn't set up until 2 months ago what a damn joke.

Please contact your local law enforcement and report this scam

Got a call from these people. I've been making their life aiving hell all morning. calling back & asking for more info. They get nasty, saying they gave me all the info I need. I've called them a few names in 2 languages (one guy told me he was in Germany). Now when I call I get a voice mail box and guess what?? the mail box is full. I'm reporting this to FCC and AZ Atterney general. Too bad this number can't be blocked or shut off by the phone company that issued it.

these people got their phone number from magickjack. I called them to report it. They say they won't do anything till they get a supona from someone and they are aware of it. Great company !!!

I got the same call and script as meeksupreme. This is for sure a scam. They also called me before the allowed call times for telemarketers. This is against the law too.

Hey again, just called them back, again "Hopkins Law Firm" and when I asked about when I took out this supposed $300 loan, he couldn't provide a date. Then "Mr. Anderson" stated that he can't tell me that information and if I want to be bad and run away from my debts, he will see me in court.  Before the call even started, I warned him that he was being recorded.  He just kept yelling and saying that I can't be trusted to follow my responsibilities after more threats and then hung up on me.  Now, as a legal representative, I'm sure if you are harassing a derogatory to the person on the other end, it's not a strong legal move. Hahaahahahaahah

I called him back and left a message on the voicemail and stated that if he wants to contact my lawyer that I keep on retainer with this issue, he is more than welcome.  However, if he calls me again, I will get feisty.  I warned him that this is defamation of character and he can take me off his scam list.  If this doesn't stop, I will contact the authorities.

I received a call today at our call center at 10:40am from a man with a VERY THICK accent requesting to speak to an employee by the name of Donna Hastings. I advised him that this is a call center and that we do not have direct extensions so we are unable to transfer to other employees. He then requested to speak to a manager. I advised him that I could take his number and have a manager return his call and he agreed. I asked for his name and he told me "Police Officer John Peterson from Colorado." I then asked for his phone number and he gave me 303-351-9669 and he offered his badge number which I accepted and it is 3999. I then asked him what this is in regards to because it sounded like he was also in a call center and he stated that a case has been opened under Donna Hastings and that we are under investigation. I then asked him if he had a phone number for Donna and he gave me 918-933-6297 which I tried to call but sounds like a fax number to me. I then asked him what police department he was with and he said the FBI.  He then advised me that I need to listen and listen closely that if he hasn’t heard from a manager within 48hrs that he will have us shut down. I then asked if he had a supervisor that I could speak to because I didn’t appreciate being threatened and and he stated that he is the supervisor. I then said to him so you have no one above you? You are the owner of the company and he stated yes. Then he stated "let me repeat, you need to have a manager return my call asap" and hung up on me!  I also called the number that he said he can be reached at and I got an answering machine that says "Hawkins Law Firm" It sounded like a scam but I would be nice if we could figure out where from and shut them down!

 I called them back about 2am & got the recording " magic jack customer is unavailable". I contacted majic jack the next morning and told them about it. They told me it is one of their phone numbers. They won't take any action till they get a supeona. I reported it to az attorney general & FCC. Mabye if more people called majick jack & reported it, they may do something about it.

Just ran a scam on them. Told them I was Officer Johnson from the Phoenix police & would like to speak to their manager. They put me on hold & then hung up. Oh well, didn't do any good but felt good to scare them for a change.

I received s csll not only on my cell but also at work they knew my name my husbands name and my daughters name. threatened to have us all arrested for "fraud"

This same guy called my apartment complex today and left a message for me to call that number back telling my landlord that he was a cop and needed to speak with me asap!!! I was then notified by the landlord and I called the number back and got a recording.. "hawkins law firm" I did not leave a message!!! A few days ago, I was online trying to apply for a cash advance loan which I did not qualify for because I am disabled. Now I am getting this guy calling me and threatening me. I changed my number but he is still calling my apartment complexes number threatening them to put me on the phone. What do I do? This is out of control.....

I have reason to believe that these scam artists originate from China. Some of them sound like they are putting on a fake Indian accent but I can detect a chinese accent in some. It would explain why they are so hard to trace and the threats saying we owe them. Just look at who holds the majority of our national debt.

I am getting the same calls and I am not sure on how to make them go away. I keep telling them to stop calling me and stop calling my work but they keep calling me. I have talked to the authorities about this and they have said that they have got alot of complaints on this. They are trying to see what they can do about it. They even had the nerve to call me this morning at 6:00am. Now I am not sure but I think that is also against the law.

said I owed money that was transfered to my account.  and surprising enough, they had a wrong account number, but they did have my social security number.  one called from New York, 347-637-6469 and one clled from Colorado  303-351-9669
