The church is likely being hacked and/or used as a screen to cover the tracks of the criminals. The church's name and web site conveniently spells wels.net which will be close enough to Wells as in Fargo for any idiot who can't spell. Banks do not text customers. For sure bank security doesn't. I've worked in banking for decades. If you don't initiate the correspondence, never give any of your information to anyone. In fact, don't call or text back and don't answer unfamiliar phone numbers on your caller ID. Anyone you know will leave a message if it's important and legitimate.
Reported to reportphish@wellsfargo.com - I'm sure they aren't happy about this scam either. And to victimize a church as well as unsuspecting cardholders (not even WF cardholders too). Like people naive enough to fall for this aren't already in financial distress. Parasites. In this economy, this should be an executable offense if you ask me.

    The full message was:
    notice@wels.net WellsFargo Security:call (303)-569-9935..

And it came through on my wireless broadband, which is with Cricket. This is the 2nd one of these I've gotten in the last 5 days; the last one also came to the Cricket wireless. Last time I just Googled the #; after I found reports here I didn't call it. But this time I decided to go ahead and do that just to see what happened.

The modem can't make voice calls so I used my regular phone. The call was answered by an automated voice saying  "HSPCC" (or something like that) and that my debit card had been limited and to press 1 to reactivate. I didn't press anything, just waited. There was a long pause and then it asked for the last 4 digits of my social security # for "verification." More waiting at my end, then it repeated the request for the SSN. At that point I figured it was in a loop so I hung up.

According to Dex this # is a land line in Georgetown, CO. As "anon" did I checked out wels.net and it's for the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). I've notified them that their URL is being used for this.

I'm also agreeing with "anon" that THIS IS ALMOST CERTAINLY A  PHISHING SCAM - looking for card #s and possibly other info, for the purpose of identity theft. I didn't report the last message because I didn't call it back. But this time I've reported it to IC3 and to Wells Fargo's phishing address, which is
    reportphish@wellsfargo.com

If you get one of these, even if you *are* worried about your card, DON'T CALL IT BACK. Call the card issuer - there's usually a # on the back of the card - and talk to a live person.

    A Web User
Watch out for all of these:
"notice@wels.net" [not really their web site - smokescreen] "Security: call 3034821973"

    Same people:
"notice@wels.net" [again, hacked this poor church site] "WellsFargo Security:call (303)-569-9935.."

    Same people:
"866@noreply.com [Wells-Fargo.Please Call at 1-302-504-8487]" [no luck looking this # up.]

    Same people:
"577@noreply.com (wellsfargo) Please Call at 16144591790!" [number comes up as Capital Structure Inc in Columbus OH...possibly them or possibly another hack?]

Make no mistake. This is not Wells Fargo let alone their security/fraud department - these ARE the fraudsters! They are phishing for your Social Security and credit card information under false pretenses.

To the scam artists: you are IDIOTS. Give up. Banks don't text their customers. Like you would recognize professionalism if you saw it.

To everyone else: NEVER give information in response to any unsolicited communication. If you didn't initiate the correspondence from square one, it is a SCAM.
