- s| 1 replyGot a check in the mail from these guys claiming to be a life assurance refund thru my mortgage company. I called my mortgage co. and they said that they do not insure their customers thru this so-called company. I called the company itself and they hung up on me once, called them again and left me on hold. They kept asking me if I have a policy with them even after I told them that I never did and never will.
I'm going to shred this check. Seriously consider researching before you cash any check when you don't know its origin.
Seems pretty shady to me.- Caller: American Bankers Life Assurance Co of FL

- Insurance Agent of Florida replies to sThe check might have been issued to the wrong client and sent to your mailing address by accident. It's unfortunate that an Insurance company would make such a mistake but it is possible. I work for an Insurance Broker and have to admit it has happened before. American Bankers is definitely a well known Insurance carrier and has been arround for many years.

- Account ManagerI work for Edmond, Deaton & Stephens Insurance company in Amarillo, TX. This company is a legit company. They call us to verify home insurance, and Im not sure if they do commercial insurance. We are an Independent Agency that sales insurance for multiple companies like Safeco, Travelers, Zurich, State auto Hartford, instead of an agency that only does business thru one company, meaning State Farm or Farm Bureau. As far as the check you got in the mail goes, I would always call a company if you arent sure why you re recieving it. Just always do some research if you are worried about it being a scam. We all gotta be careful nowadays.

- wellsmall| 2 repliesThis number is American Bankers Insurance Co of FL, or Assurant Group (the parent company), they are a legitimate company. They handle a ton of products & services including life, property & casualty and flood insurance (and therefore insurance claims). They also handle insurance verification for financial companies that require it such as mortgage companies and equipment leasing companies. If you got a call, they could just be calling on behalf of another company. Caller ID may say Assurant (the parent company). If they called you looking for someone else, they clearly just have the wrong number, it's not a scam. If you got a check from them, there's probably a legitimate reason...look into it before shredding the check. Seriously, they're not out to get you, they're legit. This particular call (on 8/9/13) was to verify homeowners insurance on behalf of Green Tree Servicing (mortgage company).
Call Type: None of the above/Other (legitimate company)- Caller: Assurant/American Bankers Insurance Co of FL

- Marty| 1 replyRenter's insurance claims agent. Aka Assurant. Stop being scared and answer the phone! Hey if they are collectors or marketers what is the worst they can do to you...not get off the phone? Whether you have a debt, hate free all expense "we pay you" vacations or not, just answer and say NO... bye! If I have time, I like to tell them to hold on for a second, then conference in the rep from their own number on the other line. It's funny listening to the confusion. Peace and Love...

- SMT replies to wellsmall| 1 replyYou seem very knowlegable about them. I applied for loan (Assurant) me & friend did seperately.. Named each other verbally as beneficaries incase of death loans be paid for. But whn she died unexpectly within the yr life ins dates i inquired. Turns out we signed loans & each other was never put down by them. i looked.at mine it was blank. Then "i" was investigated because i was being asked.about my relationship without them talking to me. I never got response to whether i was beneficary or not. I just wanted letter.stating if i was listed as her beneficary or not. Never heard.from them at all. So i hve no idea. I just like to.let family know i didnt receive anything. :( do you know who id contact?
- MJG replies to SMTAssurant has a website with a contact us link - includes a phone number.
You replied to a three year old post so I doubt that person will be back. - weezeI somehow managed to get this bunch, along with a whole bunch of others, during the year I turned 64. Im 66 now and they keep calling 10 AM Saturday morning. For you younger folk it goes like this: when you turn 65 you get to go on the ole govt insurance. Now if you can afford it, you need to get a additional policy to pay fro the things outside of what Medicare covers, especially medicine. So everybodys after that policy from you, it makes them money. THey will drive you nuts. Im almost 67 now and they still call and ring the doorbell and all of that [***].

With their time pita ty for the message - CassI was contacted twice by this number. Claiming to be a claims adjuster for a claim i have with my own insurance company. The claim had already been processed and finished. I asked the person how they got my info. He said from the company i have but he was with assurant. I called my company and asked them if they outsource and they said no. I had an odd feeling to begin with. Asked how he got my info. Kept saying from my ins company. Doesn’t make sense. I told him to never contact me again.
