Be very careful..  This happened to me on a vehice for sale on EBay and now, for a vehicle listed on one of the national auto sales group..  Same crap... It is a practiced scam.  I work for a federal investigative agency who see tons of activity like this.

I received an e-mail from William Clark who used 2 different e-mails:
    williamcfamily@yahoo.com
    williamfamilys@hotmail.com

The e-mail is regarding a car that I have for sale and appears to be fishy. The e-mail claims that the person is ready to buy the car and send you a check in double the amount. The other amount is reseverd for shipping. The e-mail requests personal info for the check to be issued. It does look fishy. Be aware.

also recieved message from him, read below.  Sounds fishy.  Not going to contact him further,

    Hello,
I am okay with  the price of $7,200 without further negotiations. Payment
will get to you in a cashier check of $16,700, this amount is expected to cover both the shipping and any other expenses that might incur in the course of this transaction. So you are required to deduct the cost of your vehicle $7,200  when payment is received and give the balance of $9,500 to the shipper for him to be able to offset shipping fees, tax / other charges and cosmetic repair costs...(The balance will also be used to ship other things we bought).
Upon receiving your payment and balance sent down to the shipper, the shipping agent will come for pick up (of vehicle & signing of title papers), and drive to the prepaid shipper...
Confirm this and forward your data for payment to be made out

Wow...this guy is making the rounds! This time, he used a service that is legit, but I hadn't heard of it till now....textforfree.org. He contacted me about my car, and asked that I email him at his hotmail address. He wanted to  know the "firm" price on my car. Guess I won't take this any further...thanks everyone!

Same thing here.  I asked him if he is the same guy that all of these posts are referring to, he asked if I was gonna tell him that I am a [***].

I then told him that I hope someone soon beats him to near death.

Hopefully he is stupid enough to keep using the same name and number so others can easily find that it is a scam.

Same guy, slightly different MO. He sent me a text message to my cell phone# that was listed on Autotrader.com. He sent the text using a free service from 'textforfree.org.' which allows the sender to specify their own email address, and it does not show a phone number. The address that the text message comes from is:
    williamckfamily@live.com

The reply to email address is:
    williamfamilys@hotmail.com

Never deal with people who won't give you their name, address, and phone number, and a copy of a drivers license and major credit card to test drive. I will say, Autotrader has some good info on staying safe.
    Hope this helps others.

    Cautious
Well, he's still using the same hotmail address and phone number.  Got the offer today.  So glad someone posted all of this info.  Seemed suspicious since he was willing to pay $4000 over KBB plus almost $10K shipping.  Anyone willing to pay $40K for a $25 K car is scamming the seller or laundering money, IMO.

Yep, this guy hit us today.  The offered seemed too good to be true so we Googled the phone number and this website popped up.  What a creep.  After reading the above info, it's all the same.  Two days ago we got the "what is your firm price" text, then today we rec'd the overpayment offer and shipper info.  Right away it didn't feel right.

Same thing...firm price, extra dollars for freight...etc. Crap for sure. My vehicle is on autotrader. I believe they should be notifying us about scams like this.
