    This horrible man called me at work, saying I owe $1800 and that they would arrest me if I didn't pay right away.  I was mortified and hysterical until a friend happened to call and knew they were a scam outfit.  I went immediately to the police station.  They agreed that it was a scam and that I need to give them all of the information about them, which I will tomorrow.  Don't fall for them!  I almost gave them my debit card number.  My friend called that number and it was a Magic Jack/pre-paid cell phone and no one answered /Miami number!

They told me her name was Charlene and that applied for a loan in Maryland.They said they did a background on me and said i was affiliated with her. They told me she was in a lot of trouble. They scared me to death. I was thinking about this and it just did not add up.

    This number called me a few weeks ago and told me that if I did not pay an old debt that I would go to jail...At first I blew it off and called my uncle that was an officer in my same town. He said that it is possible to go to jail for a bad check, but it was highly unlikely that someone would call beforehand...I got lucky. Be my guest if you want to ignore this phone call...20 min later my uncle called me and said that a warrant was issued for my arrest...My own uncle had to arrest me at my job...I was mortified

    And now you're here to tell us all about it?

    Hahahahahahe. You're telling us that you're a desperate scammer and that this site is making it hard to trick victims out of money on the phone.

    Actually we already knew that but thanks for the confirmation!

    Now, what do you think you'll find first: (a) your CAPS LOCK key (b) a real job, or (c) your way back to the boiler room!

    These people contacted my relatives about me.  This is a known scam with the FBI since 2009.  The Payday Loan Division at the Department of Justice does not exist and if these people actually lived in the USA, they would know this.  Do you really think the Department of Justice is a collection agency for payday loans???  BTW, the callers name was Cassandra.

    Completely agree.  These people obviously do not know what the "Fair Credit Collection Act" is.  I wish someone would catch them and burn down their call center.

    I received a similar call today as well. It first was a lady who said I was being charged with defrauding a financial institution and she was transferring me to her superior to give me further information. When she transferred me, a man got on the phone and told me he had an affidavit on his desk for a 3rd class felony of defrauding a finical institution and was yelling at me and over talking me and kept telling me he was issuing a warrant for my arrest. I continued to ask him for more information, he could not give it to me and kept saying he was trying to work with me but would not tell me how much I owed and when the loan was issued. He did have the last 4 of my social and the two names I used as a reference as well as the name of my old bank. He was rude, nasty and unprofessional. When I called my lawyershe told me it had to be a scam and there was no way someone would call me if a warrant was issued for my arrest. I then called the number back and it an answering machine came on with the name Cassandra. I don't know who is doing this but if they call you....HANG UP!!!!!

    Always record their calls. When they call back answer and say your call is being recorded for legal purposes if you do not wish to be recorded you can hang up. Then IF they say they decline to be recorded tell them too bad your call is being recorded, you have been informed, you can hang up if you wish. If they continue and claim a debt demand a letter of validation be sent through the mail. Tell them they can have no information until receipt of the letter of validation. Inform them that you will pursue any violations of the FDCPA in court. Research the FDCPA  and sue them for violations.

    My boyfriend and I have been thinking and the only thing we can think of is we applied for several loans online and I'm guessing one of them was this idiot with the thick accent. All of our calls will be recorded we are contacting the credit bureau to advise them of fraud and sueing this idiot. So if you recently tried to apply for a loan online that's how these idiots got your info! This idiot would be more credible if he wasn't so unprofessional and sounded like such a piece of [***]. Everytime we called he would put us on hold and come back with a different name

    Has anyone successfully found their website? I have never taken a loan and was a victim of identity theft in the past. When I said I needed proff of the debt in a letter and where it was from so I could dispute it he said oh well your attorney can do it when you bail out of jail. He gave me a website, but I can't find it.

    The phone number (305)914-7603 is from a man representing himself as a attorney working with the law office of Crowder, Curran and Smith in the Fraude and Worthless Checks Dept.  they give the address of 73 W. Flagger St., Miami Florida.  That address is for the Dade County Court house and they have no knowledge of him.  When I called him and told him I also work in the law proffession he hung up on me.  I continued to call and all I get is Cassandra Perrys' answering machine.  I investagated this with the Miami police department and it is a fraud.  Try blocking your number and it will go to a majic jack information line.  complete fraude people, do not let people call and scare you like this,  they can get all your information, ss#, background check ect.  every time you apply for loans get credit checks done ect.

    Received a call today march 20, 2012. from a Thomas Kern.. stating he was an attorney with Crowder, Kern & Smith out of Miami Fla. demanding $2100 for payment of a payday loan from 2001. Threatened to have me arrested for fraud. Would not give me any information on the so called debt. But said he pulled my bank records and computer records... I did make a report with local police to help crack down on the scams in my area... What tipped me off was the amount and the bank he said was backing him up with the charges was sold in 2004 and no longer exists anywhere in this country... They dont do their homework very well.... By the way I am in Ohio... What is this world comming to?

    Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
    Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

    Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

    Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

    Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

    Ive tried search after search to try to find a website the guy told me existed.  I called the # back and asked repeatedly for the address and the woman gave me the address to the Miami Dade courthouse!  I don't know how we can find a way to stop these people, but I called my family and told all my friends to be on the look out for a scam like this.
