Received a Hang up call.  Called the number quickly back and it rings busy.

More [***] saying they are from Google. Said they would call me once a month- all my numbers? PIA

Caller asked for someone by 1st name.  I asked for a name.  Quick response & click off they went.  Thank goodness for caller ID.  We just don't pick up calls like this a second time.

Just received a call from this number. Caller ID said it was 309-788-0811and was from a J. Marlier, the minute I answered our business line with the name of the business they hung up.  I immediately called it back and got the automated message "the number you have dialed has been disconnected or is no longer in service."  WTH????

I just received a call from this #.  I didn't recognize it so I didn't answer it and no message was left.

yep, just got this call, I didnt pick up tho. called it back, says "the number you have reached is no longer in service" or something like that. weird...

Answered and nobody there. I held on to see what happens and finally "click", they hung up. This is a business they were calling. I really hate this. I wish ther were something that really could be done to stop these calls.

There is a way to stop prank callers even when you have a business. Call your local police and tell them you want to put a trace on your phone for prankers and they'll give you a claim number, badge # and name, and a fax number along with their rank in the police station. Then call your phone carrier and tell them you want a trace and give them you're information!

Call came in from this number 309-788-0811, message said it was Google. Working on business information. Got a guy on the line, told him I was not a business. He said I was so rude that he will keep me on the list and call again. If I had been nice he would have taken my number off his list. Then he hung up. Called the number back, it rang 2 times and then told me it was out of service or disconnected number. Searched the number on Google, a lot of sites talking about calls from this number being a scam. Placed the number they called on the national do not call list. Placed a complaint with the FTC, talked to AT&T fraud, advised them of the calls from this number.
Placed my complaint on several web sites advising others of my findings and actions.

Did it do any good to contact ATT.  I have my service through COX and am planning on calling them.
I have received multiple calls from this number.  I really do not have the time to deal with all the unwanted phone calls.  Guess they have nothing better to do.

The name I post under is not directed at you, it's just what I use when I fill one of these out, so I also use it for replies. Depending on what kind of business you have, there is another way to deal with these calls. I just tell them to hold for our advertising account executive. Then I blow a sports air horn into the phone. What are they going to do, sue me? "Your Honor, I was trying to telescam these folks and they deafened me!" Good luck with THAT argument. I don't do that with legitimate businesses that are calling me, but if they are spoofing their number or claiming to represent a company when caller ID says otherwise, they are breaking the law and fair game. The solution you mentioned works unless they are spoofing the # and calling from outside the US. Then there is nothing the police can do.

Recorded message says it represents local Google yellow pages. Press 1 if you want to be listed. Hung up on that.

I receive automated calls from this number all the time about Google placement, 5 of them so far today.  This time I pressed 1 and ask if they would please stop.  The man on the other end of the phone phone asked what type of business I had and I told them real estate, he then says are you cute? and hung up on me.  When you try to call the number back the recording states that the number has been disconnected.  This is degrading and annoying if there is some way to stop this please post.

I called at&t and activated call blocking it will be activated tomorrow. I hope this stops these annoying calls! I'll post in a few days to let you all know if it was successful.

Just received a call from this number (which is local, Rock Island, IL) obviously cloaked because it shows as a fax # for a legit Rock Island, IL business.  Recorded message said they were from Google and if we wanted to make sure we were listed in local search to press #1, which I did, immediately routed to a telemarketer (could hear others in the background) asking if I was the business owner, I said no, the Marketing Director which flustered him.  He said that we weren't showing in Google. (ha ha) I said we most certainly are and have our Google Places information as well, he asked me to specify which keywords, and I asked him what Data Center he was in (our local or not) I gave him a key word and could hear him type and search, and then he hung up.  We rank #5 on the first page of Google for the term I gave him.

More telemarketing jerks preying on unsuspecting small businesses.  Google Place registration and validation is FREE.  Do not let someone talk you into paying money for it!

I really don't know what these scammers have to gain.  It's a kind of harassment.  I wish the government would do something to put a stop to this.  It makes me want to cancel my cell phone plan.

What they are trying to do is trick/scam you into OK-ing charges for advertising. They ask you to confirm your info: They ask "Are you still at 123 Some Street" and you say "Yes" and they record that. Then they edit your "Yes" into another recording, like: "Do you agree to pay us $500.00 for advertising on our website?" and splice in "Yes".
Then they send you a bill.
And then they sue when you don't pay......

When ever you get a call asking to confirm your info or answer some yes/no questions. Just say nothing and hang up.
