Received Tex message stating my card starting with 4636 has been deactivated and to call the number back at 4:45pm pst.  Checked my cards and ignored.  Thought it was strange that it was not an 800 number.  Went online later to check it out and can see others got the text message too.

I just got the same message (again)! Got it about a month ago and followed up with ILWU. C.U. about it.  Apparently this is someone trying to get your personal info to use for themselves. I really wish there was a way to stop this.  Also, I show the text as coming from (845) 464-0992. Is this where others are getting the text from?

Do not call these scums from your own phone. You are identifying yourself. If you ever have to call the number out of curiosity, call from a public phone or turn on your do-no-send-# function.

Just got a text from this # like the posters above. Funny since I don't have an ILWU CU account. Dumb scammers even tried to be too specific and got it wrong.

It is a scam.  I have gotten tons of these card locked account frozen messages lately with local call back numbers to make it look good.

I also got the same text "ILWU C.U. ALERT: Your CARD starting with 4636 has been DEACTIVATED.  Please contact us at 310-480-1235." at 8:30 pm PDT.

Sent back a text "Oh No...what do I do now?" - probably went into the either (someone above said they called and it was deactivated phone number).

I have no idea what ILWU CU is or have a card with 4636...nor does any of my banks work in text messages. I guess there are rubes that will fall for it though...lol.

Text originated from 845-464-0992 (NY). The content was: "ILWU C.U. ALERT: Your CARD starting with 4636 has been DEACTIVATED. Please contact us at 310-480-1235."

An obvious fraud, if for no other reason that NO legitimate bank or credit agency would send such a ridiculous text in the first place. It's like getting an email from PayPal or BofA, etc., that says there's a problem with your account, and expecting you to follow the link they provide in order to obtain your personal data. Another obvious clue is the origin - unless you actually have an account with the ILWU Credit Union, why would you even consider this as legitimate?

If anyone in this day and age, after hearing over and over about these types of scam for well over a decade now, still falls for this stuff, I worry for the future....

What's pathetic is that the cell phone carriers can't seem to come up with a simple solution to block incoming messages if they don't originate from someone in your contacts list. And what's even more pathetic is that the FCC seems impotent to address these types of phone/text scams.

For those who are charged a per-text fee, there is nothing you can do to prevent the unwanted texts. Absolutely ridiculous.

Actually received text message from 310-480-3740 stating that if needing to borrow $1500 to call. Seemed sketchy to me and just deleted it. Now wonder if whether it is one of those malicious texts that will start accessing my information and all.
