I received the same thing today. So now spammers have evolved -- or intelligently designed -- into text messages. Unlike unsolicited phone calls and emails, AT&T charges ME to RECEIVE these annoying gems. What a great racket! I wonder how many text spammer companies are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the phone companies, created to increase text message revenues.

I called the number. They don't identify the company -- COWARDS! -- and the voice mailbox is full. You guys must be really popular.

Just got the same text tonight.  I wish ATT Wireless supported selective number blocking like Google Voice.

I received exact text except from 310 866-1856 at 12:05pm. Amazingly just finally gave up and signed up to Facebook just after midnight this morning. Surely cannot be related.

Don't reply to it.  They are looking for active numbers to scam through.  Report it to your local attorney general and to your cell company.  If you reply they know that the number is active and they can charge to your account.  It is similar to emails that you get that ask you to reply when you don't want to receive them anymore.  Often times the companies who send them out are robo emailing to see if the email address is active.  When they hit one that is they sell the email address to companies looking for people to solicit to.  That is what this essentially is.  If you number is on the do-not-call list, this may not fall on the violation list because it is not technically a violation.

This text, and a robo-called survey based in WA are directly related.  I received a call from the survey company, and since it was the 7th time they called that day and I had looked them up online to see the shady past, I finally answered and in a very unpleasant angry voice told them to STOP CALLING!   minutes later, I get the same call, with caller ID blocked.  about an hour later, I get this SMS message.  So this IS harassment!  if you want it to stop, you have to find them, and deliver your message to them IN PERSON.  it takes some digging to ferret out the slimeballs behind it. (others have done that...google it)

Also received a message...reported to the Department of Agriculture-consumer affairs office.  If enough people complain, the department will shut them down and possible impose a large fine.

There is no legal way to reduce debt by 82 or 90% as above posters have reported short of paying it. This scam can go any number of ways - phish your account numbers, sign you up for negative-option subscription because you agreed to accept charges when you replied, etc. Do not respond.
