some DUDE keeps calling my job everyday asking for the president of the company by first name, like they just had cocktails together.  he says he's from "green business"  he needs to learn how to call a corporate firm a little more professionally.  by the way "green business" if you read this, just know, you will never get the president of the (our) company on the phone.  go figure.

just got a call from this number. Says he is an editor for American Builders Quarterly and wants to write a story regarding our company.
Obviously didn't do his homework, cause he did not know who he wanted to speak to.

Publishes companies editorials and information...probably for a fee.

Hint: Editors don't write the stories.

They called again today. This time when I told him the person he wanted to talk to retired a couple of years ago, he was sooo professional that he told me it was a screwup by one of his interns and now they were fired.

    What a joke.

Just received a call from this number. She said she was calling from American Profile Magazine and they wanted to do a story about my company. She took (of course) all info including my name, email, blah, blah blah and wanted to send an info package.  After I hung up it really seemed like a scam to get info/addresses for junk mail.  I will post if anything changes, positive & negative.

    Company TAWB
So this chick calls....says she calling wanting to find out more information about our company, as they're considering writing an article about our busines..(it's a roofing company)
We've recently undergone some corporate changes, and I referred her to the company website so she could familiarize herself with the company. (one woudl think that would've done that already right?)

After we hung up, I *-69'd the line, and got there tel #. It's an automated attendant (of course) and you can barely understand the company name. It's like the volume purposely lowers just at the company name is being stated.

About 5 mins later, the same girls calls again, pretending to be one of the 'directors' for the company, claiming that her colleague that called earlier couldn't understand the information I gave her earlier, it was clearly the same person, the voice was exactly the same - I repeated the website to her, a little slower, and gave them the 800# for the corporate firm, as they clearly are our marketing departments 'wet dream'...
Proceed with caution - I didn't give them anything really, aside from public information which is available to anyone with a computer and a brain.

Our call came in from 312-447-2366 - from Profile Magazine.  The contact was Preston Lang.  Wanted to do a story on us.  I'm assuming this is merely a ruse?

Same person as Schult Industries. Preston Lang called tuesday and today to try and write a magazine article on our company. In his recent message he said, "I am not trying to sell anything, and this will be my last call."

Based off of this webiste I guess its a bunch of BS. His number was 312-447-2366.

Got the same call recently from Jim Brake at Profile magazine.  (312) 564-2173.

It seems that our boring little business is technologically advanced enough to be doing an article on.

Biggest emphasis on the call was a drop dead date to get my list of vendors and suppliers to possible advertise with them, and then 3-4 weeks for a writer to get in touch with us.

I just got a call too from Jim Brakey (sp?) of Profile Magazine.  He said it was a publication focusing on innovation in the USA.  He wanted to schedule an interview to discuss our company owner, our business partners (who we sell to) and the history of our company.  I asked about fees and he said it was free - what company would spend that much time working with us and marketing our company for free.

    Same number as above (312-564-2173)

What is so hard to [***] understand about this?  They run free subscription magazines, and they don't have cost associated with being featured.  They look to get referrals from the companies they feature in order to generate ad support and cover production costs.  Nobody that has posted here has any substantial evidence of any sort to unknowingly label them a scam.  It's a [***] BUSINESS MODEL.

    David,

I agree (although not so colorfully) and am also wondering what is so wrong here.  I have been contacted by a gentleman that is extremely nice, not pushy at all and seems to be interested in my business...I have not been hounded by them nor did I get a feel as if I was being scammed in any way...

so what I see is this:  I get a call that wants to promote my business...it is free...they want some leads...and then they write an article about my company...

I am not sure that there is much scam here to just get a few names and then get free pub out of the deal...pls tell me where I am wrong or missing something...I did send this link to my contact there and have not heard back from him as of yet, but I am not sure that I have a problem thus far...

Good luck to all that think they are getting scammed...maybe if you take a risk here you might be rewarded??!!

We have been contacted a few times, and haven't paid them anything yet. Although not a scam, what is the value?  They solicit advertsing. Fair enough. We pay for advertising all the time. The question is, is their media kit truthful?  We have asked for a media kit twice so far, and haven't received anything. The media kit will tell us their readership breakdown, how many publications are printed and sent out, stuff like that. It doesn't do any good to pay for advertising, if nobody reads the magazine. I wouldn't say Scam, but maybe false advertising?
