A man with poor telephone reception called and left a message on my answering machine. He addressed me and my wife by name and he said he was officer Mark Robinson with the Legal Investigation Department of the Internal Revenue Service. It was difficult to understand what he we was saying through the accent and the static noise. He mentioned something about debt and that I should call (312) 940-6328 before a claim is filed. I have no reason to believe that I owe the IRS anything. I think this is a total scam but I still had to do some research before this conclusion. I will not be returning this call.

Rec'd call from  "out of area" (no number on caller ID), message left by someone with a foreign accent saying he was Steven Smith with the investigative dept. of IRS and that a claim had been filed against me. Used my first & last name....said to call back to 212-940-6328 to resolve it before it went to federal court. English spoken as if not his first language. I think this is a scam since I know I don't have any issues with the IRS. When I checked out this number it is a cell phone.

Received a message on my voice mail from this number. Only said my first name, very bad English , like it was a second language, almost like he was reading from something, officer mark Robertson from the investigation unit of the irs, Just to let me know that a case was going to be filed in the federal court, I need to respond to his call.   I did call back just out of couresity to see what type of response I would get from irs, never did get through, the call never connected just static. Again as others have stated I know I have no issues with the irs, but nevertheless the call was un nerving to say the least. I shall not call the number again.

I received the same message, the first time I tried to call it said the Verizon subscriber was unavailable, tried again, and "Officer Mark Robinson" answered the phone, but he hung up right away.  Unnerving to say the least even though I am fairly certain I have no issues with IRS.

Rcv'd call from this number from a Mike Rogers, VERY heavy foreign accent & a badge number for this "agent", from the IRS (asked for meaning of acronym was told Internal Revue Service) looking for my mother.  When I stated she was unavailable, he demanded to know who I was, which got the blood boiling ~ you called me!!!  We called back later & Mr. Rogers stated it was in reference to Tax Evasion. I asked for a Supervisor/Manager & was told there wasn't one to which I threw out a BS card & called him on it & he hung up. Called the number back & got a "Supervisory Agent" Keith Anderson, who said he was with the Investigation Office. Asked for a case number & was told they were taking legal action since I was being unreasonable. I demanded a case number, which I was given, I asked for a toll free number which is 1-800-829-1040 & I asked for their office address (denied). Asked for more specifics & when I asked for a letter to be mailed to me regarding this "matter", he said he would notify my local sheriff & have me arrested before the night was over & then he hung up on me. No answer when I attempted to call the number back. Going to post this wherever I can & get hold of the Chicago IRS office in the morning along with an email.

Total scam run out of India.  First off, the IRS does not file lawsuits.  If there is a need for court action, the IRS makes a request to the DOJ which makes the final decision whether or  not to go to court-- usually to enforce a collection action of some kind or another.    See:   http://www.irs.gov/irm/part5/irm_05-017-004.html
But this only happens   after a long period of administrative negotiations with the taxpayer.   Before any court case would happen, the taxpayer would be well aware of it.   IRS is never going to cold-call you and tell you that a case is being filed against you  out of the clear blue sky.
IRS has absolutely no authority over local police.  Local police and law enforcement are NEVER involved in tax disputes.     If law enforcement presence is needed , US marshal are available.
Secondly, over 90 percent of all tax disputes are settled administratively during an appeals process.
This is just a scam where somebody cold-calls, pretends to be IRS and  tries to scare you into paying money to somebody by Green dot money pak which is untraceable.
Ignore the call and do not return it.  Block the number.  Never return these kinds of calls.  They are looking for vulnerable people they can brow-beat into paying them something.  If they sense vulnerability they will hammer that person with more calls.

    Total scam.

IRS has absolutely no authority over local police.  Local police and law enforcement are NEVER involved in tax disputes.     IRS does not arrest anyone.  It has no law enforcement capabilities.   If law enforcement is needed US Marshals are called upon.  But this is very rare.

They are just trying to scare people.
