This person had an accient that was hard to understand and was very rude.. The Government as far as I know do not call you to give you free $$$$.

Got a call from that number. Earlier that day I had got a call from someone claiming the IRS is suing me. So on this call, I decided to play along. The message on my answering machine said I had a grant for $4000. I called up and immediately told the girl I need the money. She asked if I knew where Western Union was (at that point I knew where it was going) so I said "yes". She said to go there and send $170. I asked who I should send it to, and she said to call them when I was at Western Union and she would tell me then.  I said I have a better idea, you send me the money first and then I'll send the $170 out of that. She said they couldn't do it that way. I then said "here's the deal, why don't we just split the money, you take $2000 and I'll take $2000". She said no again and again told me to go to Western Union. I told her I think this is a scam and she insisted that no, it's no scam. We went back and forth for a minute on that, and she got impatient and asked if I was going to Western Union. I said I think this is a scam. At that point, she said goodbye and do not call back. I of course did and for the next several minutes, I called them back over and over. Each time they would pick the call up and say nothing. That was last week, then today they called back. Same deal, told me to call back when I got to Western Union. I waited 5 minutes then called back and said I was at Western Union and asked what now? She told some guy there about this, asked my phone number and he called me back. It went to my answering machine and somehow both her and the guy ended up on the call saying hello to each other. Pretty funny.

This number is calling saying they will give me a governent grant, which any government department isn't going to call to say "oh you were awarded a grant". The woman on the other line was foreign & told me that she REFUSES to remove my number from their calling list. She also was cussing at me & calling me stupid & saying to go ahead and report her because there is nothing I can do.

You are so far off the mark your post doesn't even deserve an answer to explain what's really going on.

Total scam.  There is no grant.   They are trying to get you to send them some money by untraceable means by saying you are the receipient of this money but you have to pay sone sort of a fee or something of that nature which is untraceable.  Don't fall for it.

I second what CWG40 posted. You will be required to pay some amount of money up front, allegedly to cover the taxes on the amount, or the handling, or whatever other excuse they come up with. That amount could be a couple hundred dollars. You would be instructed to go to Western Union, or to some location where you could buy a pre-paid card and load the cash onto that, then provide the card number and PIN to the scammer. They will immediately draw off all the money from that card and that's the last you'll hear of it. You're out the $300 or whatever, and you'll never see the grant, which didn't exist in the first place.

Oh, I should correct what I said: You might even hear from them again in a few months or a year. People have reported here being contacted AGAIN by the same or similar scammers for similar thefts. Most of them learned the hard way. Don't let it happen to you.

I got a call today,  similar to all the stories.  They told me I needed to send 200 dollars but I'll get it back, I  just need to make a deposit. I wanted to believe it but I was skeptical because of the her accent and I didn't think gov.  Would give away free money . I was crushed for time,  and then she said we could make a direct deposit and of course I gave then my bank acct.  # . I feel stupid,  i will be calling my bank first thing in the morning.

    Tired of thieves!
Wow! This is unreal. I received the same call didn't so it went to voice mail. I called back and a woman answered right away. No "You have reached Federal Grants office" or something to that affect. She proceeded to offer me the $4000 grant. I asked her "What is the money for? Why was I chosen? How was I chosen?" She said " You have been chosen. How would you like to receive the money?" She proceeded to offer me the options of access to my bank account, Visa card or Western Union. Boy Western Union needs to find these people and handle them because I only hear Western Union with these scams not Money Gram or Walmart. I am fed up actually. I want to know where they get my name(By the way they never mention my name!), my number or information.  I don't know if I was having a bad day but I asked her name of the company again. She says Federal Grant, do you want the money or not. I state I apologize I just wasn't sure I heard right. She goes into rude mode. So let her know I am not that desperate and hung up. If I had the time and energy I would access who owns the number and file a claim. Wonder if that is possible because every time my phone rings or I get an email its a scam!

Received a call and its not a human voice that leaves a voicemail which raises some red flags right there. If you receive a phone call from a robot, please don't follow through in calling them back.
