It is a scam. Do not give them any information!!!

It isn't a scam! They are very legitimate and they saved me from a scam that I was almost taken advantage of. They mean business by all means -- but are very friendly at the same token.

I don't know what you are talking about.  They are a scam or bottom feeder debt collector who does not follow basic FDCPA laws.   Either you are lying or you work for the company.   They called me about a debt from over 5 years ago that was paid off.   When I asked for them to send me debt validation they stated that they did not have to which is against the law.   A debt collector has 5 days upon request to send debt validation.   They also stated that they do not have copies of the original contract which most likely means they don't own the debt.  They said they would send me a copy of the bill(not debt validation) which was basically saying what I owe with their company's name on the header.   They never sent that letter anyways.   They were also calling me at work and when I asked them to stop because I'm not allowed to receive calls at work they told me that I would have to submit that request in writing.  Again, that is also against FDCPA laws.   Once a person requests that you cease contacting them at work they have to.

Eventually I sent them a debt validation letter and cease and desist letter by certified mail.   I've yet to receive anything back from the post office saying they received it but I have not been contacted by them since.

My advice is to ask them to send you debt validation to make sure they are the company who now owns the debt.  My guess is they can't produce it.

I spoke with a very friendly representative who helped me resolve all of the issues at hand before they were blown out of purportion.

I received a telephone call today from a Monica. She wasn't rude but wasn't nice, but somewhere in between. She managed to keep me on the line long enough to work out a payment arrangement and help me find a way out of a debt that was hanging over my head for a long time. She asked me to go online and rate my experience I had with her on any website where I could submit a rating. I promised her I would as she kept the conversation professional and was very democratic about everything.

The FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf treats the INITIAL CONTACT between collector and debtor (first call, first letter, first whatever) as a special event. Legit collectors per section 809 of the FDCPA *must* tell you at initial contact, or send you paperwork within 5 days of initial contact, the following:
1. $amount of debt,
2. name of the current creditor (which may differ from the original creditor who might have sold your debt),
3. a statement that that debt will be assumed to be valid unless you dispute in writing within 30 days,
4. a statement that that if you do dispute in writing within 30 days, the collector must mail you written verification of the debt,
5. a statement that if you ask the collector in writing within 30 days, the collector must send you the name and address of the original creditor if it's different from the current creditor.
If you don't get the 5 disclosures, orally or in writing (you do not have to ask for them, the FDCPA requires collectors to provide them), treat the collector like you would any SCAMMER.
Note that 3,4,5 must be done *IN WRITING* so you will need to ask an address from your collector. If s/he refuses to give you one for any reason, treat the collector like a SCAMMER.
The collector can threaten court action at initial contact but the FDCPA requires that the collector actually take you to court if the collector threatens it. Threatening court and not going through with it (coercion) is illegal.
If they say the FDCPA does not apply to them because they own your debt, the debt-owner exemption only applies to the original owner. Any 3rd party who buys the debt for the purpose of collecting debt is treated as a debt collector, i.e., ownership is irrelevant and debt buyers must obey the FDCPA as explained in this FTC Staff Opinion letter here http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpa/letters/arbuckle.htm 
Has the statute of limitations for your state http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/SOL-by-State.html expired on your debt? If expired, don't pay.
Collectors generally have to be licensed by your state to practise (collect debt) in your state and you can find out by calling your state Attorney Generals Office. Ask if a license is required and does this collector have one. If not licensed, don't pay and file a complaint with your state AG.

I do not want calls from this number

I answered just now and it's the Wichita Eagle trying to sell subscriptions to the paper.

They must have changed numbers because I got a call today and they were selling the Wichita Eagle. Which we already take.
I told them this number is listed on the Internet as a debt collection agency and they were like "Huhhh?"

Called me today but when I answered, there was no one there.

stupid wichita eagle, keep calling even after expressing no interest in their paper.

Don't know who this was, when I answered, no body answered back.

I got a call from this number and they left no message.  I cancelled the Wichita Eagle over 6 months ago, I've received multiple calls from different numbers, all traced back to them.  UGH!

I ordered a subscription from the Eagle ON LINE.  Three weeks later and no paper delivery.  The carrier finally called, after I canceled, saying the address he was given was wrong.  I finally got a refund including 28 cents more than I paid.  How many ways can you spell incompetent?

Debt collector, time to block it!

This unwanted call happen at 5:20 in the morning and allegedly was selling access to free video jail calls. Voicemail had recording bot saying calling from jail has never been so easy if you would like to remove yourself from this list blah blah blah but who calls at 5:20 in the morning if they have legitimate business???

When I answered this number they said my name and the hung up. They didn't stay on the phone long enough for me to find out who it is or what they wanted.
