The caller. a girl, pretended to a College recruiting, but can't provide any information of the college when asked.

Yep - same here. Claiming to be from Champaign (?) college recruiting. Right. Probably related to "800 Service". Called back one of the callerid's 800-811-4634 and the voicemail claimed to be a collete recruiting service.

A girl from some college..i think she said moravian but im not sure. i said i dont know much about it but she never told me anything about it..so i hung up

girl said her name was abigal from a college nearby here and when i said hello how are you she hung up.

caller comes up as University Admissions on my TV (cablevision) and my son is applying to colleges at this time. Are you all in the college application process as well? Wondering if our #'s were sold through SAT/College boards or through another college site?

I think that might be the case as well

im applying to colleges and for scholarships and this number said that they were something about financial aid, the same place calls my cell phone but the number has come up as this one and also a place in bronx, new york

yes, it is a scam- do not pay for any SAT test college prep
our school sent out an email telling us that  these calls were happening.
Not sure how they are getting everyones home phone numbers-

daughter is currently applying for colleges so somehow she must be on a list because that is the only place she submitted our home number.

checked caller id - number came up this evening - thank you to all who have posted their experiences - my son has applied to colleges-universities recently - will wait to recieve correspondence in the mail from interested prospects - again - your input is greatly appreciated!

Call from this number but since no one here applied to a school in Iowa, we just let it go.  PLEASE put this company on DO NOT CALL report!

The number ,(319) 730-2568, is from somewhere in Iowa. My daughters have not yet applied for college yet, they are Juniors, but we have been getting many unsolicited calls regarding college planning, SAT Prep, etc. Another notorius caller in this vain comes up as "Rufallo Cody" on my caller ID. Again, another type of college scam. I am on the do not call list, but I suggest to all who read this to start bombarding thier local Congress Members to complain about this general type of college planning scamming.

Caller says she's with Winthrop University (in South Carolina). Wanted to speak with our daughter who's a high school junior.  Informed her that our daughter was not home and asked why was she calling. She then wanted to know if our daughter would be applying to Winthrop.  I said "no", and she said she would take her off their list. [We've never heard of this college.  Don't know why they would be using a number with an area code in Iowa instead of "803" - suspicious.]

A male caller said he wanted to speak with our daughter (a high school junior.)  When I inquired why, he said he wanted to know if she was interested in "Austin" college in Texas.  I said no, and he replied that he would remove her name for their calling list.  Strange that this is from an exchange in Iowa.  Must be connected to a list made available from the College Board when the student checks that they may be contacted by a university when taking the PSAT/SAT/ACT tests.  This checkoff is not intended to be sold to solicitors. (Received a prior call, that time from a female, from same number who wanted to know if our daughter was going to "Winthrop" university.)

That's definitely probable. I gave my cell phone number to CalArts because I wanted to get their admissions packet to check out, and since then I've been getting some obscure calls. Darn you, college scams.

Left no message on ans. mach.  No one anywhere near college age associated with this number so have no idea why they would call here.

I called the number back and it's a fundraising organization, currently raising funds for "college admissions".  Scam, and wondering where they got my number.  My son took the SAT this year.  Also, we used an SAT prep site.
