- ShenandoahI've had several calls from this number threatening bad things if I don't call back to respond to income tax fraud charges against me. I have NOT answered.
- Annoyed in NHThis number called me again today saying they were from the IRS and there is a warrant out for my arrest for tax evasion. This is a scam. Do not give them any personal or financial information. The other numbers they are using are 321-234-8268 and 321-234-8267 as well as unknown caller and 603-866-2997. BEWARE of this scam. It is well known to the IRS.

- Elspeth replies to RBW| 1 replyThey get away with this stuff because there are still people who don't know about this scam. Let your family and friends know that this type of call is a scam attempt - education is the answer. Think about it - if no one fell for it, they would move on to another scam, so there are lots of unfortunate people who do fall for it and pay them. More info here:
Scammers Falsely Purporting to be Calling from the Treasury Office of Inspector General, Office of Investigations; the Treasury Office of Legal Affairs or Emailing from the Office of the Secretary of The Treasury: Scammers call an individual asserting that the individual has been awarded a grant or a similar sum of money and request personal information or a sum of money to “release” the funds. The Treasury does not have such a program. Likewise, e-mails promising a sum of money and purporting to be from the Treasury Secretary or his staff are false. We urge recipients of such calls or e-mails to be extremely wary of any scheme requiring an advance payment for a later promise of funds—these are hallmarks of scams. A similar scam is a caller falsely representing that he is from the Internal Revenue Service or impersonating an investigator from this Office and demanding payment or information. These callers have been described as threatening or abusive, and tell victims they need to make immediate payment to forestall arrest. THESE ARE FRAUDS. PLEASE EXERCISE CAUTION IN YOUR DEALINGS WITH ANYONE PURPORTING TO BE FROM A GOVERNMENT AGENCY AND DEMANDING MONEY OR INFORMATION. Further information concerning one type of these frauds is available at http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Repeats-Warning-about-Phone-Scams. - Sherriem replies to ElspethThank you! I am in total agreement and try to tell everyone I know who is older and less informed to avoid these creeps. I'm 71 and have a computer, but my mother is 95 and she not only doesn't have a computer, she does not not have a phone with caller ID or an answering machine. Her brain is sharp and knows to avoid most of these calls if they get through to her.
