Number calls several times in a row if you don't answer..If you try to call back a report comes through from Verizon saying the number is no longer in service.

On my cell I rarely answer a # I don't recognize. I then come to this site and check the number. If it is listed like this one, I add the number to a contact name, zscam1 or zscam2 etc and flag to automatically reject the call. After that it never bothers me again. Currently I have about 10 numbers listed under each of these contacts and I add a new number about every 2nd day. When I fill all the possible numbers for zscam1 or 2, I will create zscam3 etc.

I did not answer this call. I had an experience from a number that taught me a lesson. If  you don't recognize the number or there is no ID as to who it is do not answer. I answered a call one time and it  didn't have any ID as to who it was and was charged $4.00 for the call because it was from Dominican Republic I found this out after calling Verizon about the charge  & was told by Verizon that because I answered the  call and even if I did not know who it was I was charged. If you don't answer there's no charge I was told.  So I had to eat the charge but from now on I do not answer any calls that say restricted or do not have an ID.  If its that important they will leave a voice mail if not then its a scam.  Hope this helps someone.

I don't understand this at all.

How can Verizon charge you for an incoming call?  If you don't have Caller-ID, you can't check who is calling you *before*  you answer the phone.

And what about spoofed numbers?  Can you also be charged when the calling party uses a spoofed number?

    P.S.

And can you also be charged for the incoming call if your answering machine picks up the call?

That doesn't make any sense.  Other than regular "minutes" if you have such a plan, you can't get charged for "answering" a long distance call.

Add your phone number to the national "Do not Call" register. Give it a couple of weeks and fewer calls will start coming in.  When they do, tell them you are on do not call list and will report them if the activity continues.

WRT adding unknown callers who do not leave a message, I do the same.

One difference being, over a period of several years I now have ≈100 numbers in the reject call list.

Left a message saying I won a luxury vacation. Pretty sure it's a scam - I never entered any such contest.
