    FYI:

For everyone dissing the DNC list: it does work. It prevents LEGITIMATE telemarketers from calling you.

If your number is registered on the DNC list, you can be assured that these repeated or annoying calls are coming from crooks, not legitimate telemarketers. Most often the calls originate from overseas call centers, despite what shows on your caller ID, which these days has been rendered nearly useless.

The DNC has no jurisdiction in the countries where the calls are coming from.

just got a call from these idiots. at 1:30 pm standard time. i have received several in the last month from this same company.
first off i'm on the do not call. which they have chosen to ignore. and is worthless these days.
second, they offer a trip to orlando 4 days 3 nights for to people $598.00 no airfare yada yada yada and a bonus to cacun mexico... yada, yada,
here's the hitch... 90 minute seminar, they say no obligation to buy anything. b-s. this is high pressure sales once you get there. that's why they ask you if you have a major credit card. they use high pressure into you buying a timeshare in orlando fl.
do not fall for this scam. nothing is too good to be true.
i have read stories where people ended up, because of the high pressure, spending $10,000 + on a timeshare in fl. yes this is a high pressure timeshare sales pitch. don't get suckered in and do not give them your credit card, as they will charge fees other than the rice quoted. you have been forward.

JoeyDee is right, I can't believe how many people think that the DNC list protects them from all scammers and such...

Your are correct. Those complaining the DNC list is useless fail to understand that legitimate companies do use the list. It's a list for law-abiding telemarketers to look at before calling someone. It is not some kind of computerized blocking tool that stops callers. So yes, if you do get a call like that it is from a criminal. Just like burglars can break into your house, these criminals will ignore the DNC list hoping to find someone to scam.

You are partially correct about overseas call centers. If the money trail leads to a US company using a foreign call center, the US company can be taken to the woodshed by the FTC. It is just often very difficult to find the trail leading back to a US company.
