Called before 8 AM, person pretending to be from legal department of US Treasury Dept. Obvious scam. Blocked.

Got the same one today.

Got the same call - said to have an attorney return the call

Hey, stop calling and bs me. Come and arrest me [***]!!

Yes, Indian-accented guys masquerading as legal dept of US Treasury and threatening an arrest warrant for my daughter over allegedly unpaid taxes.

Getting tired of middle eastern men and women calling me with fictious scams.  Whats sad is the government that i spent part of my life defending allows this to occur daily to thousands of americans and does nothing.  Times are changing and we can not afford to sit and do nothing while this unwanted and unwarranted crime continues.  The day is upon us to take arms and act on these repulsive acts and people!!!  JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED!

I'm an retired US Marshal, I answered "well if you want 20 years in Leavenworth keep calling, we can track you down" I didn't hear anything after that.

Received a call from this number yesterday.  Wanted $4700 (back taxes) and $2000 within two hours to avoid immediate arrest, seizing of all assets, etc.  Asian-sounding accent.  Identified himself as Travis Hall (IRS Agent and later a US Treasury Dept. Rep.).  Told him where to stick it and reported on the IRS impostor scam website.

Got call from mid-eastern man stating he was US Treasury agent & threaten my disabled son with an arrest warrant if he didn't call Special Agent Steve Thomas at the above number.

I received two calls on my voice mail from this number, two minutes apart.  The woman on the other end had an Indian accent and called herself Annie Johnson; sounded like she was in a call center.  She said that she was calling from the Department of Legal Affairs, and that they were starting "enforcement action" against me.  Tried to sound threatening by ordering me to have an attorney call her back.

I got a call from this number from a man with a heavy Indian accent pretending to be from the US Treasury threatening legal action against my mom. Looked up the number and what a "surprise" not from the US Treasury.
Blocked.

Unfortunately  these people are located in India and Pakistan and as such outside anyone's reach.

This message is intented for <Firstname> and <Last Name> Yeah, hi <Firstname> this is Susan Hicks from the department of Legal affairs of U.S. Treasury and I was trying to reach you in regards to a very important issue. This is a verbal notification for <Firstname> in regards to some law enforcement action that has been started on your name. My number is 323-238-3879, i repeat that 323-238-3879. If for at any reason you were to call back. I would suggest that you would have your attorney recent attorney to do it for you. As delaying calling us might end up into a legal mess for you. I hope that you would take this right and call me right back. This is Susan Hicks with the department of Legal Affairs. Looking forward to speak to you. Until then. Goodbye and have a blessed day. Typing in the background of a call center with voices in the background.

Indian man left a very threatening voice mail re my daughter owing back taxes. Says he will call the cops if she or her attorney doesn't call back. Can anyone really be led to believe that any government official would leave such a libelous message? Obvious scam. I'm thinking of posing as her attorney and threatening the crap outta him. Nah...why waste the time.

I just got the same call today from Annie Johnson, i should have my attorney call back. I would like to call back and tell them where to go, but I don't want them to know they got through to anyone.  The only part that does worry be is she did have my firs and last name, and my phone had been unlisted forever. I'm guessing they got my number through the Target or Home Depot breach, because I was affected by both.

Same message today. We called back the number and it was disconnected.

The 'number' wasn't disconnected-- it was a spoofed number, which never existed in the first place. These type of 'numbers' are used by scammers, so they can't be located, and prosecuted.

Received a call from this number with a woman who had a very heavy Indian accent threatening legal action and stating that she was from the Department of the Treasury.  Obviously a scam.

Received a call from (323) 238-3879 and let it roll to voice mail. Caller was "Jennifer Lincoln" from the "Department of Legal Affairs" urging me or my attorney to contact her immediately regarding legal action that had been started against me. She strongly urged me to call her back to prevent a "legal mess" that would be initiated following her call.
What garbage - I'm happy that we have websites to post their activities and bring their crimes out in the open. Shame on you scammers.

These are criminal extortionists operating in overseas boiler rooms using VOIP to alter their identities and locations and out of the reach of US law enforcement.

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.

By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.

Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.

They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.

Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.

The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.
