- Jim Hembree| 3 repliesI keep getting a call from this number that tells me I must call them back. They are now using a 702 area code as well as a unknown call number when it comes through. I don't intend to call them unless I know what it is for.
- Caller: the firm
- Al. replies to Jim Hembree| 2 repliesthis phone number is a group of individuals that use a fake "case file #" to intimidate you to send them money to resolve a bogus court case. in my incident they gave me a court case of 22446-IL-14. which is purely made up. they'll ask for a relative, for me it was my brother. they'll say "they must get a hold of them to resolve the issue". in one case they actually said that I was going to be issued a subpoena if I did not call, I told them to SEND IT!! of course, I never did receive a subpoena. some how they got all the phone numbers on our account, mine, my wife's, our two children, and house phone number. my wife was able to actually get the guys name Mathew Bennett (of course it's probably a fake name). they'll insist that they're "real" but understand that if it where real, and the courts where actually "after you" they wouldn't use telemarketers. what ever you do, DON'T GIVE THEM ANY MONEY OR "REAL" INFORMATION!!
- James replies to Al.I just got the same call. Its a scam.
- MargaritaIt's a SCAM. My mom just got a call from an unknown number and they told her to call back to this number. When she did, they were trying to get her to send them money for a bill she supposedly owed. Funny how her "debt" owed was $2800 and they kept asking her if she could borrow money from someone to send them even $50 to avoid having to go to court. Finally my mom got pissed off and told them to send her the certified court papers so she could go to court and they hung up. Good thing my mom isn't stupid, just broke, lol. Supposedly the guy's name was " Spencer Bell".
- Call type: Debt collector
- Donna Holmes| 2 repliesI just got a call at my place of employment from someone named Bill Spencer, using the same #, and when I asked him why he was calling he stated, "Well didn't you get the documents in the mail? Hold on a minute while I pull your file". He never did come back on the line so I hung up.
- Ted BorregoJust a call also at my place of employment from this number asking for my mother, I told them she wasn't available, at this time he gave me a case number and a contact number to reach him "Bill Spencer". I had a local police officer give him a call, this guy started acting like he couldn't here him. This guy is a SCAM and should be placed in jail for fraud. Don't send him any money its a scam.
- Caller: FRAUD
- Call type: Debt collector
- Max C| 2 repliesI got a call from a restricted number and they told me to call this number because there were "charges" from the county being filed against me. I am an attorney and what they said just didn't make any sense. They gave me a "case number" which did not match the format used in any court in my state. They couldn't tell me anything about the nature of the case, but told me that they had sent me correspondence 45 days ago. The big give away was that they claimed to be a "process verification" company but they couldn't tell me my address. I wish them lots of luck trying to serve me with process without my address. Don't fall for this scam. You'll know if you're being sued. Consult an attorney before you send anyone money to settle a claim.
- AnonymWE get a call from this number, the clown on the other end fails to realize we are a group of white hat hackers investigating consumer fraud by fake collectors and call centers.
This guy claims to be LDA LAW GROUP, issues a fake state claim and case number that is back checked as we are on the phones. I then put a GV-Lock in on the number, track its IP to a boiler room of hacks. Locate the address and soon we will send them a present. Just will take a while to collect 50 lbs of cat poop to mail them. Since we are Preppers, Off grid, Members of CLUB ZERO ( a anti credit group) and NEVER OWNED ANY CREDIT CARDS, USER LOANS, OR ANY SUCH DEBT, this will be a fun one to see them do.
When we have or package ready, with the box to send the nice all over, I will post their address to the web, do a you tube video and add a link.

TELL THEM NOTHING BUT EAT IT AND DIE! - Mike| 1 replyThis number called today and left a message stating that legal documents were being sent out to "my location" and used mine and my mothers names. But they used my mothers previous last name, which hasn't been used for the better part of 8 years. Not to mention I'm 32 and haven't had my name and her name on a legal document since my old truck loan 8 years ago which I hold the title for now.

- Cindy replies to Al.I just received a call from 323-282-5894, they asked for me specifically, then my supervisor, etc. They said it was to serve a supeona, and gave a case number that doesn't jive with California's case codes....I told them a different name when asked who they were speaking to....sounds like a scam to me
- Alfalfa replies to MikeHow can I verify whether or not a debt collector is legitimate?
Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:
The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.
The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.
The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.
The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.
Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.
Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.
Stop speaking with the caller. If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.
Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling (855) 411-CFPB (2372).

- JanieThese people ( I have had a black man with a low voice and a Hispanic sounding woman call) have called several times claiming to have court documents that need to be signed for and that I need to call in order to verify. I never answer the phone for numbers I don't know. So, they leave horrible and threatening voicemails. Something like "Contact the issuing firm immediately otherwise you will have a judgment against you .... you have been notified...blah blah blah. I worked for a general counsel for a very large company and seen court case numbers like those. No one gets "notified" if you are getting served papers. These are really dumb scam artists. There is always someone at my house, kids, mother, sisters, etc. They say they are sending someone with papers but no one ever comes. All you have to do is get the number call the court house and verify the number.
