stated that they were from the irs and that this was my final call. I don't owe any money to the irs. they didn't ask for anyone in particular so I know it's a scam

Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.

Threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.

Left message saying it was the IRS, that they were filing lawsuit against us. We do owe taxes but they are auto-deducted and we are current. Did not use our name. When I called number back, phone was answered and a recorded voice said "Weasels have eaten our phone system." Yah, pretty sure that's a scam.

Also, phone number was out of Montebello, CA.

They left a message on our home phone that used to be the number of a business saying the IRS is filing a lawsuit against us. Obviously a ridiculous scam. Called back too to hear the "Weasels have eaten our phone system".
