- David| 1 replyIt's a collection agency acting like an law office. Called me at work. Told me that they sent a summons officer to serve me papers early this morning and said no one was home. Funny thing is that my roommate has been home all day. I allowed him to finish with his speech. I told him to never call me at work again or he will be subject to a 1000 dollar fine for each call. He then got rude with me, which is a dead give away that it's a collection agency. He uses scare tatics don't believe him.

Stated tried to serve legal documents to an individual that does not live at my address nor do I know. Gave a summons/claim number as well. Actually violated the FDCPA by giving information to a 3rd party.

- jeremiahThat number was left on my voicemail from a lady I couldn't hardly understand then I called it and he was telling me they are suing me but couldn't give me details about the account....he started insulting me and telling me he would get his money one way or another...
- LatedaCalled out of state family members and provided them with information including a case number. Said I was due in court and had 2 hours or I was missing a hearing. Read my SSN to someone other than me. I called and gave him a mouthful. He said many things that I believe are illegal including reading my entire SSN to me. Telling me he knew my wages. Told me I had one hour to settle over phone or be sued. Told me they tried to serve papers at my home 3 times but couldn't tell me when. Couldn't give me any info on the account. Talked to an attorney and filed a complaint with FTC, waiting for him to call back or for what is next. Chase advised it sounded like fraud.

- SteveThis info is from the Federal Trade Commission's website:
Do I have any recourse if I think a debt collector has violated the law?
You have the right to sue a collector in a state or federal court within one year from the date the law was violated. If you win, the judge can require the collector to pay you for any damages you can prove you suffered because of the illegal collection practices, like lost wages and medical bills. The judge can require the debt collector to pay you up to $1,000, even if you can’t prove that you suffered actual damages. You also can be reimbursed for your attorney’s fees and court costs. A group of people also may sue a debt collector as part of a class action lawsuit and recover money for damages up to $500,000, or one percent of the collector’s net worth, whichever amount is lower. Even if a debt collector violates the FDCPA in trying to collect a debt, the debt does not go away if you owe it.- Call type: Debt collector
