- Nonya| 3 repliesThis is a mortgage company - I have spoken directly with them - they are rude and nasty when I told them I already refinanced with a different company. They told me I should have called them and talked to them before I did anything. Really - ummmm who exactly is the owner of the house - ME - I make the decision when it comes to that - not them. I have told them repeatedly to stop calling from all their different numbers - I have blocked their numbers and it comes back as a new one. This time - I wasn't in the mood to deal with their nasty attitude and I told them if they call me one more time I would be reporting them to the FCC as I have already requested being taken off their list over 20 times. And yes they record the phone calls - but no they refuse to take me off this list
- wendythis number calls me numerous times every day. I usually don't answer, but when I do, there is no one there. When I call back it is always busy
How do we get this number to stop calling.- Caller: ohio
- Pick Up and HANG UP| 4 replies330 Area Code? I'm in California, and this is an out of state number. I used to blow a whistle at them, but that just blasted MY ears and annoyed my family and pets (and neighbors), and the scammers started retaliating by calling me at 2-4 AM and being nasty. I got so frustrated I considered changing our number, but knew it would just continue because I shop online. So, we had to get creative. I tried chatting them up with insane nonesenseAny time there is an out of state area code (or even a local one) I don't recognize and am not expecting, I just pick up before it connects to the answering machine and just immediately hang up without saying anything...not even "Hello." Then I check here at 800 Notes to see if it has been reported.
If it hasn't been reported here, I might call the number back to see who they are if I'm curious enough. 9 times out of 10, it turned out to be a spoofed number that either doesn't go through (scammer), or it's some unsolicited cold calling panhandler looking to reach into my wallet (usually construction contractors or realtors looking for work the old-fashioned way). Very, VERY rarely (maybe 1 out of 100), it's someone I actually need to talk to, like an out of state relative or company I ordered something from checking to see if I got it. This is a game I play all day, every day. Once you sign up for any contest or sweepstakes (Free Trip or Publishers Clearing House?), or buy something online, your number automatically gets sold to a hit list for every scammer and telemarketer in the world, and there is no shaking them off.
Robo-dialers are the worst in my opinion, and should be BANNED globally (or globally restricted for exclusive use of the Emergency Broadcast System for disaster warnings). Robo-dialers don't have any sound on their end for a few seconds after you answer, until your voice or background noise on your side of the line activates a sensor that your number is live. Then, it autoconnects to the computer at their call center that relays it to one of their available phone operators (telemarketers), who reads their shpiel from a script (or they improvise, often RUDELY). These call centers auto-dial a bunch of pre-programmed numbers simultaneously, and if they already got another called number to pick up before yours and all their operators are connected to other calls, then they disconnect YOUR call instantly and when you answer your ringing phone all you get is dead air and a click or "Goodbye" recording or a dial tone. All this happens within a matter of a few seconds, and it goes on repeatedly all day until all of the numbers on their purchased list (including yours) have been connected to a live body. SO F%&#*@G ANNOYING!!! So, really, it is not a real person constantly calling and hanging up on you, but a computer doing it. Further, if you answer and say "NO" to their offer or ask to be taken off their list, your request will ALWAYS be rejected (because they PAID for your number--called a "Sales Lead), because their protocol is to never accept a "NO" and to keep pestering you until they get a "Yes" or you block their calls and/or sue them.
So, the best defenses are to either get a good call-blocking machine to attach to your phone (most phones have limited call-blocking ability), or do what I do (since my call-blocker is maxed out) and just pick up and HANG UP. That way, their computer sees my number as a "Dead" number and usually auto-deletes it from their list. You could also have some fun experimenting with this: RECORD any of the recorded "fast busy" signals or the official (real) version of "{tone, tone, TONE} This number is either disconnected or not in service at this time. Please check your number and dial again." and play it the next time you pick up the numbers that keep calling you repeatedly.- Caller: Did not bother to find out
- Tamianth replies to Pick Up and HANG UPYou can add a device to your phone and that will add up to another 1500 numbers of blocking capacity plus.. Google them, they run around 40.00
- Godmother22 replies to gwarren3Unknown number. Did not pick up. Left VM. No one there.
- MarkThey call and get my home phone which has a business phone system. I put a routine in the give a "Please wait" that is enough to have most systems hang up and then system never rings my phone, also give me a nice block list. You can also send them to a message that tell them : hey can you hang on a minture I will be right back" them puts them on hold forever if you want, some stay as long as the 15 minute hangup timer, thats at least 15 minutes that they are not messing with someone else and cost them money
- Caller: scam
- Call type: Telemarketer
- kThey were offering free moniter for a home security system when they just called here.
- JReceived a call from this number. Caller ID shows "Now Found". Left no message. I've added this number to my blocked list.
- Caller: Not Found
- annoyed with phone companiesFirst, phone companies are playing both sides of this - they get a LOT of money from me every month and money from the telemarketers. Personally, I think the phone companies need to step up and put a stop to this for anybody who doesn't want these calls.
2nd, I have no idea where they get my number because I always enter my area code and 999-9999 as my phone when I order online. They can email me if there is a problem.
3rd, Thanks for the info on the massive call blocker. My Panasonic phone has 3000 slots for saved numbers but only 30 for call blocking (Note to Panasonic: You have this reversed.) Since call block was filled up long time ago, I save the number as "Z whatever shows on caller ID" . My phone announces the caller so when I hear "Z something", I don't stop what I'm doing to check the call. They can switch numbers as often as they want. I just google them and add them to the "Z" list.- Caller: CLEVENLANDOHLLC
- Call type: Telemarketer
- CK4everCaller ID said Akron, OH. Stopped ringing after 2 rings. Must be a robo call.
- Kee Kee| 2 repliesI got on every do not call list there was. It didn't make a difference. I bought a Panasonic cordless phone that can block up to 250 numbers. I love it. At least once a day I get the one ring and I know it is a blocked #. Same companies sometimes. I even got a call from same business...new #. Trust me, these folks have figured how to work around the DNC list. I was so annoyed, I answered a call and started singing Home on the Rsnge. They were cussing and I laughed and hung up on them.
- Tired of ItJust answered a call from this number. ID said CLEVALAND OH LLC, so I was curious. After a couple of clicks (dead giveaway that it's a scam) a live person came on. "Hello! This is Jason with General Electric Home Security Systems! How are you today?" So, no surprise - mortgage company (see other posts) and home security systems.
- Caller: CLEVALAND OH LLC
- Call type: Telemarketer
- SapphireGot a call from James saying he was from some security company. I told him we were not interested and asked him not to call anymore. Then I hung up.

- LMD replies to Pick Up and HANG UPThank you for such a thorough comment! I learned some new stuff, I am going to try your suggestion for the robocalling.
- Wow replies to Pick Up and HANG UPSo, you waste your day calling numbers like this back? Says a lot about you. Me? I don't bother answering numbers I don't recognize. Further, since I have a fax machine, if I'm next to it when the phone rings, and I don't recognize the number, sometimes I'll hit "accept" on the fax machine, and it will kick in and the caller hangs up when they hear the fax tone. But most of the time, I don't bother. It's not worth spending all my time on. I have better things to do. Plus, I just go into my fax machine and add the number to my block list. Then, if they call again, the fax machine automatically kicks in and disconnects the call. What could be simpler? Then I don't get mad like you are, and sit there and waste my time calling numbers back to talk to rude people. Who needs that? Not me!
