just got a random call from a Mexican man that was trying to prank call me then hung up

Prank call from Mexican man.

Received a call from 331-076-4961 and a man speaking Spanish claimed to be a cousin of mine but wouldn't tell me his name.  I didn't recognize the voice and told him I didn't know who he was and then the phone hung up.  He called again saying he was driving through the mountains and that's why the call hung up but when I continued to tell him that I didn't want to guess because I had no idea who he was he then hung up again.  I looked up the number and the area code is from Illinois.  I do NOT have family from that state.  This is definitely as scam or prank!  BEWARE!!

I got a call earlier in the day from this number I couldn't hear him but then he called back later and he kept dying he was a cousin from my mom's family I told him I didn't know and that my only cousin that lived in the United States had died and he hung up. Talks about 5 mins and wouldn't give me his name

Same Deal and jive from this number today. He said he was kin to me and I told him he was mistaken, there are no Mexican people in my family. He got upset called me a name and hung up. The number was 1-331-076-4961. call was at 11: 49 am    11- 6 - 2014

Received call from this number. Guy speaking spanish said he was my cousin from my mother's side. Talked for about 3 minutes & never gave me his name.

A guy speaking in spanish asked me about my family (I live in Mexico, and I don't have family in US). I asked his name and he don't answer me and hung up.

Man speaking Spanish called me saying if I knew who was calling. I told him I didn't know to tell  me who it was. He told me to guess it was one of my cousins.  I just hung up and blocked the number.

Just got a call from this number. Was at work so didn't answer. Caller did not leave any message. Guess I missed out on a crazy Mexican prankster/scammer!

My mother, who is elderly, received a call from this number. It was a man speaking Spanish saying that he was one of my mom's nephews and that he was driving up from Florida to NY, where my mother lives, and that he was going to stop by. Somehow, though my mother was confused at first, he tricked her into giving him her cell phone to arrange a meetup tomorrow. After my mom told me about it, I had her call the nephew's family to confirm and they said that he was in South America and not at all in the U.S. I googled the number and confirmed that it's a scam to try to get money wired somewhere. What's strange is that there are many complaints on online forums like this one but somehow the number hasn't been taken down. I think this is worth reporting to the authorities. Another complainant on a different forum even said she had wired the guy money thinking it was actually her cousin who had gotten in a car accident and needed help.

Just like most of you, this guy called my elderly mother last night saying he was my mom's favorite nephew. Of course she didn't recognized his voice so he said he was from Florida, but was in the Wash, DC area and was coming to NYC so he wanted to stop by and spend the afternoon with mom. Of course when she heard Florida she then said, "Oh, you're Tony" so he said yes. (mind you - what should have been a hint - he had a Dominican accent and we have no dominican relatives). But she didnt thought to much of it!!! So she gave him her complete address. Thanks God she also called me and told be about his "visit"

So everything was arranged for today, noon time for them to meet and he had previously invited her for lunch.

Today, at 11:57 I went to see mom and my "cousin". But as I walked in my mom told me that "Tony", had just called her on his way to see her, had gotten into an accident - his fault - and he needed for her (my mom) to lend him a thousand dollars for the damages to a car, belonging to a mexican guy and the money was to pay the mexican for the damages, so the insurance companies would not get involved. Upon hearing all of this I was sure it was a SCAM.

I called my uncle, my cousin Tony's dad and he told me that Tony had called him less than an hour before and he was in Fla at the time.

Thanks God that my mom told me about this and we called the Police Precinct and were advised that indeed this is a scam.

I did check the above tel # and now I see that its the individuals vary some of the tactics but the SCAM is the same.

SO PEOPLE PLEASE BE AWARE!!!

I received the same call and he claimed to be my nephew. I am an only child.The only weird thing is that he knew my full name.
